Mail Offer for Capital One Platinum Card

Postby beckhsrules » Tue May 27, 2014 6:35 pm

Today came home only to find that I am qualified for a Capital One Platinum card and would get it instantly if I apply within mid of June. I am confused as I could see this one as a very basic card without any benefits. Should I go ahead and take the offer or should wait for some more time and try my luck by applying for a card with bigger benefits. Also since this is a mail offer will there be a HP if I go ahead and apply for the card? Guys please advice me.
Cards:

Amex Blue Sky 2000 (5/14)
Amex PRG NPSL (8/14)
Bank of America Cash Rewards Visa 2500 (1/14)
BofA Better Balance Rewards 1000 (6/14)
Discover IT 1250 (4/14)

Scores: As of May 25 2014

Experian 714
Equifax 709
TransUnion 714
Discover 694(Aug 31)

Usually when you apply for any card (pre-approved or not) a HP will most definitely occur. I mean if you feel you need something to revolve on then take it but if you're just interested in rewards I'd pass. Just read the APR carefully.
My Cards

Chase Freedom Visa Signature: $5.2K
Capital One Quicksilver Visa: $7.5K
Discover IT: $5.5K
Huntington Voice World Mastercard: $1.6K

In the garden indefinitely.

I will skip it for now then. Let me see if they give me a better offer and not fall for their first one.

When I receive those offers from Capitol One I send back the prepaid envelope full of junk mail. I hope one day they'll get the message. I've been doing this with them, Chase Slate (received 3 offers in one week once), and Bank of America.
American Express Platinum Card
American Express TrueEarnings Card from Costco
Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card
Chase Sapphire Preferred World MasterCard
Discover It

A lot of people with comparable credit history get mailings from Cap One for that card. There's no benefit to it when you have rewards cards from Discover and BoA. Is it for a Mastercard, like the mailings I got were? Some places might only take Mastercard (Sam's Club?) but that would be a rare situation and you could get a better one somewhere else.

I wouldn't bother with this card - when would you ever really use it?

In fact, for any particular card Capital One offers, you can probably get one from another issuer with comparable benefits and better customer service.

You have three rewards cards; there should be no looking back- all your cards from here out should offer rewards. As for whether you will have a hard pull, well... it's Cap One you won't have a hard pull you will end up with three- one for each credit bureau.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

Yup I am going to skip this. If at all I come to a situation to own a MasterCard I decided that I would go for a different service provider with better rewards :)

You should apply for the cards you need/want versus just reacting to offers.
