Anyone here a vinyl aficionado?

Postby Battery111 » Wed May 14, 2014 9:49 pm

I'm just curious if anyone else on these boards is into vinyl?

Personally, I've found it to be a fairly enjoyable way to unwind at the end of the day. Listening to a record tends to cause you to listen to the entire album, as opposed to listening to a couple songs like on most digital formats. It's also a fun pursuit to getting the most out of your music than can be had with digital, since every little component can have a large effect on how your music sounds. Anyone else into this hobby?

I have a couple thousand records, but almost all are electronic singles or EPs from my DJing days. (There's a reason for my screen name.). I think I may have two albums: one Talking Heads and Don McClean's American Pie.

It's funny. That was actually my first personal exposure to vinyl (I'm 32 so there was some vinyl in my house as a kid, but I never really thought about it). So with that bit of background you gave I'm assuming a TT of the technics SL1200 persuasion is in your house?

SL1200mk3, Shure M35x. It's been a long time though.

Parents had a lot of cool records in the house growing up. Beatles, Quincy Jones, all destroyed when the basement flooded.

I just started getting into the hobby about a year ago. Not DJ stuff, just listening. Currently using a denon TT, but really considering a VPI traveler. I love that vinyl is experiencing a niche resurgence, so I can get a lot of stuff on new pressings that would have been tough to get a decade ago.
