if you are a Mad Men lover or lived during that time.....chime in

i am taking a real interest in the series "Mad Men". this is after I found my grandfathers pocket secretary from 1965 that has been sitting in a box since his death in mid 80's.

its a lord buxton secratary with the tear off paper slips on the side and the window for your wallet underneath and can hold a checkbook....it's really a treasured item since i am crazy about secretary wallets. but there was a scene in one episode where don pulled his out and started writing on the pad inside.....that hooked me. My grandfather's still has his last writings in it on the top page. i have since had it framed as it was what he was going to get my father for his birthday.

I'm struggling to process the Zeitgeist of the era. one character said she spent $100 for Don's bail.....and that broke her....I just spent $100 on fuel last week. I'm can't realize how much inflation has taken place since the mid 60's. apparently 37K a year was a huge sum for a salary back then. Depending on how you live....that's barely enough to get by today.

Man, I love that show. It's fascinating to see the race and gender dynamics, then see how much has changed, and how much has stayed the same.
