Largest Purchases?

Postby Snowman » Sun Apr 06, 2014 2:42 am

So a couple of weeks ago, I made a pretty large purchase on my SPG (I'm planning to go visit some family in NYC) and bought 4 tickets for my brothers and my mom and myself for 1,700$ (ya, I know it's a tad much, but these were the cheapest I could find before the prices go up again.)

I'm sure many of you charge much higher amounts then I do, but what was the largest purchase you've made?

I was needing to pay the mechanics $4,000.00 to replace my cars engine. I wish I has a Amex NPSL of some sort, I had to make four separate payments of $1000.00. Very unconvinante.

My largest purchase hasn't been that large actually. I paid the equivalent of 3500$ for 2 return airline tickets for me and my fiancé from London to Curitiba in Brazil.

$12K down payment on a car (I had the cash but I wanted the points).

The sales guy originally told me I could only charge $2K but that memo never made it to the finance guy, the moral of the story is always ask when your'e in the finance office.

$1,300 for my skis; $2,300 for auto and homeowners insurance every year; $2,300 for the points to redeem for our next trip (DEN-NRT-PEK-ICN-IST-FRA-YYZ-DEN all in J); $6,xxx on the auto down payment; some amount on the wife's ring - I forget how much.

I'm not much for extravagance, so you won't catch me buying any fancy watches or anything like that. I probably shouldn't have spent $1,300 on skis either, but they were really worth it and I use them a lot. I think my large purchases are just the normal expenses of an average American life. I just happen to find ways to charge them.
