No it was not the FedEx in Bedford Park. I'd rather not say which location it was until this is all solved but it is blocks out of the Chicagoland area if that helps. Many people on this board and family and friends are telling me to see a lawyer so I think I will on Monday. Until then, I found some stuff in the employee handbook that might be useful. A few things pointed towards "disciplinary action" where I'm supposed to get a verbal warning, a written warning, a critical warning, and then termination. Of course certain things can go directly to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th steps such as stealing and stuff like that but this was a pure accident based off of their negligence. Other things in the handbook were about meetings that we are supposed to have like 4 times a year that we haven't had one in over a year. These meetings were for employees to say what they felt was going on around the dock. Things we liked, didnt like, wanted changed, thought needed attention. Even though we havent had these meetings I still voiced my opinion about the bad working conditions to certain supervisors and they agreed with me. Of course theres no way to prove it. I never recorded them agreeing with me (who would)? I think I'm going to put together a rough draft of everything and take it to a lawyer Monday and atleast all the facts will be there and he could advise me from there. @MemberSince99- Like every job it had its ups and downs. The weather is brutal. Extremely hot in the summer frost bite cold in the winter but the pay was great. I'm 21 and was making close to $21.00 an hour and in the next few months I would have been making more. @Daniel- I was surprised but the manager did not ask me to sign anything nor was HR in the office or even in the building as far as I know. The manager didn't even walk me off the premises or anything like that. What really pisses me off is that they already had my payout check waiting for me. The check with all my sick and personal time. These checks come from Arkansas and take a few days to normally get, so obviously they already planned on firing me a few days prior to calling me in. I could have already had a few more days to write my appeal and/or look for another job.

I'd be pissed off too.

This is a swipe at corporate America but this is a prime example of the sort of "loyalty" they have to the "most valuable assets" these days. Remember that when they talk about what a scumbag so and so is for leaving the company before they got around to downsizing/outsourcing/rightsizing them first. They are so focused on controlling you and every aspect of your life that they even can't stand it when you control how you leave.

And God forbid they should put down some oil dry and keep things safe - it might cost the shareholders a penny and drop the stock a buck, throwing off the lavish bonuses of the execs, better to allow a few accidents then blame the help while hogging credit for anything that goes right even if you were only there in spirit.

I hate working for these people with every bit of my being. They may have an Ivy League MBA but they can't tie their own shoes. Fortunately with their outrageous pay they can afford an underling to do that for them. Yet even with them being vastly overpaid underworked idiots, they bitterly oppose the help that gets things done making as much as 7 bucks an hour. Yeah they are something else.

That's good that you haven't signed. Just DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!!!!!!!
All my posts are my opinions. All my posts mentioned "you" are merely for discussion-purpose only. No advice is given in any post at any time. It is also impossible for me to put effort to verify every statement that anyone has given.

Well I'm already terminated so I dont think I'll have to sign anything at this point unless I end up getting my job back. Do any of you guys have any good ideas on what should be included in the appeal letter or what SHOULDN'T be included in the letter? I want to have a rough draft in place before I go and talk to a lawyer.

Not being a lawyer I can't give legal advice. This is really a legal matter. I'm sorry it happened to you and I wish you the best of luck.
