GOOGLE GLASS- is it really worth it?

Postby nismoZtuner » Thu Jan 23, 2014 12:38 pm

Okay, so today in the morning i woke up and jsut started going over email and while i was doing that i received an email from google. I received an email from google telling me that I was "chosen" and now able to get Glass  from them. Back then i really wanted them BAD! that was when other people first had them.

And now that I am being given the chance to get them, im thinking if its really worth it?

What would you guys do?

--I was doing a bit of a research and it seems that to become an explorer one has to pay $1500 (I think) for Glass. I havent clicked on the link google sent me but on the email it says that i can order them online or i can go just go to their headquarters in LA or SF to get them fitted.

They are $1500. I would say no as you are paying to be a beta user. Wait until they are released and have more apps. But if you have a extra grand-and-a-half laying around go for it.

That's what going through my mind its not really worth the $1500 since its beta. Maybe by the time it hits customers it will be in the low $700s and improved!

It is $1500 right now. If I were you I would wait, they'll come out with a second generation beta product soon, assuming at Google I/O. It is rumored the second models will have an earpiece and other improvements. Also expect the price to come down, Google has already said that the final product won't cost $1500, they're trying to get it to the same cost as a smartphone.

I don't think it's worth it.

I just read a story of a guy who took Google glass into a movie theater and the Gestapo (Homeland Security) saw him and assumed he was filming the movie, ripped the glasses off him and interrogated him for hours before letting him go. It didn't say if torture was part of the interrogation but it wouldn't be too surprising these days.

Yeah I head about that. The real shocking part is that the MPAA can call in homeland security.

Well we can't be too careful about being sure the terrorists can't illegally film movies. That's obviously way worse than flying airplanes into skyscrapers.

As far as that Google Glass movie theater story goes I think protecting piracy and copyrights is important. I've never seen anyone with Glass at a theater, not sure what I'd do if I did see that. If I did clearly see somebody filming the movie, or I knew someone was, no doubt I'd walk out and tell the theater staff to call police, but it would be pretty awesome if Homeland Security showed up. I had the opportunity to see Homeland Security officers in person last year when they were checking a train I was on that was headed to a college football game. It was an awesome experience.
