Pretty much irate at Fedex

Postby MemberSince99 » Fri Dec 13, 2013 5:36 pm

Well I ordered 3 small items off Amazon (my first mistake). Came FedEx today. Actually what arrived is an empty box with a note from FedEx that said "Your box feels empty you should file a claim".

How lovely. I guess their employees have found a new way to supplement their low wages.

Now I have to contact Amazon YET AGAIN about this sort of thing.

You know I have NO problem with Amazon, it's these damn shippers that are forever losing or outright STEALING stuff (yes I'm calling them thieves, the crybabies on here can whine how a UFO might have beamed those items out of the box and it's not poor FedEx's fault for all I care, I'm not listening) that are causing the issues.

I'm beyond frustrated this just goes on way too much.

And of course if I DID file a claim FedEx would simply say I'm lying and it's my word against theirs - if their employees weren't stealing our stuff, maybe they could file the claim for you instead of delivering an empty box and telling you to do it?

What a country of thieves, liars con artists and scammers from the politicians all the way down to the minimum wage douche bag workers.

I once ordered textbooks from Amazon and UPS mistakenly delivered a box of women's health magazines to my front porch. I kid you not it read item 3 of 8 for Target on the label and another label with my name and address. How could UPS make such a blatant blunder? They delivered me a parcel that was destined for the local Target store.

Luckily my textbooks arrived a couple days later.

I did go off a bit there. But man, you know, I just don't have words for that one. Beyond what I already said.

Amazon is great but what good is it if you feel like you won't get the stuff anyway. I'll just have to try to find what I'm looking for locally. Maybe it's a good thing in the long run.

Yeah I've noticed that, about the luck I have.

I took a closer look at the box, and there is no evidence I can see that the sides of it were ever taped together. So either Amazon never bothered with it, or FedEx did a great job of removing whatever was holding the sides together. I really don't know. It's possible a FedEx employee noticed that and swiped the stuff, it's possible it got jammed and the stuff got forced out (though the box is in good shape and it doesn't look that way) or who really knows. It's just not good is the point.

If this were a "typical" situation each side would be blaming the other - the seller would claim FedEx is responsible and FedEx would claim the seller is at fault and both of them would simply want to run out the clock and leave me to pay for what I didn't get. That happened to me when I bought on eBay - the seller shipped an item USPS, USPS had tracking which showed they delivered the item, but I never got it. So when I filed a claim Paypal simply said look USPS shows you received this and the claim was denied and I was screwed on that one. But Amazon is not your typical seller and they already took care of it.

I'm still going to try to do more local. Some stuff you just can't unfortunately. I have no issue with Amazon they've been great I haven't been screwed one time (unlike eBay and Paypal) in fact they've really gone above and beyond. It just seems like if they ship with anyone other than UPS, who I haven't been a fan of until recently looking at the results, there are a lot of issues. Not Amazon's fault really there.

I have always hated FedEx. I do not think I have ever had a good experience with them. I buy A LOT of stuff from Amazon. Lately they have been shipping my items through UPS SurePost. I hate this service. The sole reason I get things shipped through UPS is because I do not want to have to to deal with USPS who can be worse than FedEx. If it is shipped ground then I can use my MyChoice Premium (which I pay for) to get it delivered to the UPS store right by my work. I have done this so much that they know me and leave my package in a spot right behind the counter that I can just walk back and get myself. They also get payed every time I do this so that makes them happy. I cannot do this with SurePost unless I pay the $3.50 "upgrade" fee. I do not also pay for Prime to have to pay $3.50 to have my packages delivered the way I want them. I pay for two day upgraded shipping and do not expect the most basic shipping possible. I have contacted Amazon several times and told them that I do not want to have SmartPost used to ship my two day Prime items but they keep saying that they cannot control that and it is done by a computer. Then they tell me that they will forward my concerns to the shipping department. The first time I did this they started to ship my packages ground but they have have started to ship them SurePost again as the last several ones have been. Amazon has always had amazing customer service but this is starting to stain my view of them. The bottom line is that if I pay for premium shipping I should not get the most basic shipping possible.

There has been no perfect shipping company so far, except for DHL when a friend used them to ship cookies almost overnight from Germany.

For me I mean,

UPS has messed up a few times, once, leaving a yellow note saying sorry they missed me when I was working at home all day, alternatively checking on the tracking number of course, come to find they just left it at my door without a ring or knock, called to get the driver to deliver and he comes back and the box is smashed.

FedEx I have more experience with at former job, I always hear stories because when they come to deliver on a weekly basis, we always check the boxes for any signs of tamper before signing, well--once when I had a customer return an item meant for bleecker NYC store only and therefore had to be sent back there, I used fedex, our carrier to do so

It was done overnight and the manager of that store calls because it was empty. They thought I didn't pack it but you could clearly see on the video cameras we have set up that I packed it into the box, walked it to the back door where it sat for hours untouched until the fedex guy came to pick it up.

USPS..oh boy..let's just say they've lost more packages then the former two combined.

Either way, I have to trust these shippers but I have it shipped to work so I can physically be there to see it.. I also haven't ordered from anyone but big retailers; I really like how H does their packaging sent via FedEx, it's a box inside a sealed foil bag :D

ETA--I don't sell anymore but the few times I did, I package like how I was taught when I worked in retail..using tape saying pls check if tampered or something like that, wrapping around the whole box continuously and also the side edges so there is no crack visible if that makes sense.

You know that's an outstanding idea, that tamper proof foil. I bet it would cut a LOT of the problems out until these shippers get tamper proof bags of their own to use :D

Seriously it's good but you know the thieves would just fight fire with fire it would have to be more than that, there would have to be a code or something that would get destroyed if the bag is tampered with that you could verify.

How that would be done and make this workable and affordable I have no idea. But if it could be done that would be great if we could cut down on the thievery.

And you would THINK that with employees being a dime a dozen these days they would keep an eye on the people they hire and if there are too many issues, check the points where these come from. And terminate AND prosecute those caught filching stuff to send the message this isn't tolerated. After all it costs the company money to settle the claims and loses them reputation and eventually business.

It seems like the only time these companies do something about it is when someone has a video of them doing it and it goes viral online.

Another one of my packages is late that was shipped SurePost. Chatted with someone at Amazon and they were nice enough and gave me another free month but that only treats the symptoms and not the problem. She also said that she had a problem with SurePost being late with her Prime shipment. Said that she will send a letter to the shipping department telling them that packages shipping SurePost come late and they should not ship with that method for me. It is to be seen if that will fix it. I have my doubts. I guess if they keep shipping with SurePost I will not have to ever pay for Prime since I will keep getting free months. So its not all bad.
