One more post you might find funny - as far as estimating. The requirements are never really known or truly set even if they are, so you are always asked for an estimate on what you don't know.

I've told people in our field how it's like going to a mechanic and saying I'm having car trouble and want it repaired, when can you have it ready for me I need that in an hour. When he says well what's wrong with it you say well I'm not sure but what kind of mechanic are you that you can't figure it out? I need to know how soon I can have this.

It sounds insane but it's not that far off the mark. At least we can laugh at the lunacy.

And another one along those lines my manager told me how the execs get a daily report and they told him they frankly only look at one of the numbers but would he please add a few more fields to it. He said you mean you want more fields that you won't even look at added to the report and they said yes it would look nicer that way. I mean this is the level of insanity we face. Gotta keep laughing!

Phoenix isn't exactly booming but we've got some good companies out here which I'm thankful for. I'm coming from N. NJ/NYC which had way more companies but also alot more people competing for the same job.

And I have to keep my head up, negativity does no good. I have a guy who complains everyday, i try to avoid him as much as possible. Hearing him bitch first thing in the morning is not how I like to start my day. Sometimes I just want to tell him if you don't like it here go find something else, otherwise stop bringing everyone else down and be grateful you have a job. Such a negative Nancy.

Yeah I get you there. I try to interject humor with my bitching to at least keep it bearable for others!

You know with that car analogy, you know how the network people continually lock us out of what we are supposed to work on, to protect the system from idiots like us (and ensure their own personal power)? I was thinking of adding to telling the mechanic that I'll need to keep the car locked in my garage because I can't trust him with it, but he still needs to fix it for me.

Seriously isn't that reality on the ground?

Yours in wonderland :D

How did I miss this thread the first time around? Y'all are cracking me up. :)

I'm a jack of all trades, it depends on who you ask if I've mastered any of them.

I work, essentially, in trade agreement compliance for your friendly, neighborhood government. I was a boots on the ground analyst for 7+ years before switching over to a support role where I help our people work our technology and understand our calculations of just how much violation is going on. Part IT, part statistics, part frustration of impossible demands (could you take calculation A up to point B and then switch it over to calculation C through point D and produce this custom report for me? Preferably in the next 10 minutes? Lemme see...how about ARE YOU INSANE?), part "hey, you've been here longer than everyone around me, can you research/do this for me?" (NO! But I will point you in the right direction...).

I'd kill for a shower door on my cube, Member. I'd *maim* for a SHOWER CURTAIN!

But I do see results from my job (I have documented proof I created/saved a couple thousand jobs over the years), we have bi-partisan support, I got to do some travel back in the day, and I enjoy the company of about 80% of my coworkers, so I stay, for now.

I also do property investment part-time, write for several local blogs on neighborhood and urban/development/transportation issues, and single-handedly keep several local watering holes in business (I kid, I kid). :)

I am a casino dealer. I have dealt almost all games. I was mainly a carps dealer in my last casino, but I have dealt roulette, poker, baccarat and of course black jack.

I have moved here to Arizona, because I the dealers here get to keep there own tokes (tips). My other casinos where all pulled joints, meaning every dealer received the same from the toke pool. So no matter how good I did my job, I made the same the person next to me. All though we get a COLA, our starting wages are around $5.00 an hour. So we live on tips.

But now I work in a place where I only deal black jack, which to me is the second most boring game to deal in any casino. But every tip I make, I get to keep for my self! So I don't mind dealing a game that is easy to deal, because I have the opportunity to make any amount I can! Basically I play games all day and get paid to do so!

Don't forget to tip your dealers!!!
