So I lost my job...

Postby JA. » Sun Nov 17, 2013 9:38 pm

Although it gives me more time to focus on other things, such as school Im worried on falling behind on payments and bills.

After lurking through every page on craigslist job classifieds I was only to land a few interviews. Sadly those interviews were for MLM type companies or commission only sales.

By the way, if anyone on this forum knows of any place that is hiring or can recommend some places you would be a life saver!

It would help if you let everyone know your skillset.

Colorado, especially Denver, is a tough financial market right now. Doesn't help that the two most recent governors (ritter and hickenlooper) have been openly hostile to business.

Have you tried the casinos up in Black Hawk and Central City? They're always hiring.

Seriously what ISN'T a tough market right now? I've been looking for another job since this spring, and it's so horrible out there I gave up for many months because it was a waste of time. The interviews I got, just made me grateful I didn't have to work for the sort of massive a-holes who were interviewing me. Doesn't mean I like my current job just means it could be a LOT worse.

But honestly the media which is the propaganda tool of the government is continually hyping how great everything is, how we are in a "recovery", how much better things are, the usual litany of lies, but you know, it's like someone peeing on your leg and telling you it's raining.

Anyway I will also add I have not found Craigslist to be a great place to find work. Maybe you have some friends who can get you in someplace? I'd say that would be your best bet.

I agree with you on craigslist. All the interviews I got from craigslist turned out to be those employers you described.

On the other hand I gave a shot at Apple retail and my interview experience with them completely changed how I look at them now.

Seriously, I went to a total of 5 interviews! All for just a retail position?? I met and interviewed with Team leaders, Store managers, HR managers, General managers, and even their "Market leader". In the end I didnt even get the job, all I got from my last interview with the market leader is "we will let you know". I never heard from them again, not even a denial email.

What a complete waste of my time, and I even skipped some classes to make it to these interviews. Not to mention wasted all this gas going to every apple store in colorado...

You can get a seasonal job right now at Best Buy. I did it because of the massive discounts, I really didn't need the job though, but it was easy to get hired since they are open longer hours and need more staff. It's not a fun place to work, and most of the training is done on computers, but its still a job.

I "worked" there for a month, and worked a total of 10 hours that month. I could of made more buying stuff and flipping it on eBay/Craigslist, but that would be against policy :ppp :)

That's typical. It's an employer's market, and they are going to jerk you around and interrogate you as if you are the only guy on earth who knows which cave bin Ladin is hiding in, minus waterboarding (maybe).

When I interviewed this year they played games with me too, like telling me to come for an interview so I took time off work (PTO mind you of which I don't get much) and they put on a unicorn mask to greet me like it's some big joke and tell me it's not REALLY an interview they'll let me know if they want to actually interview me. The next one spent most of our wonderful hour together trying to beat me down in price even though I told him what I made before we even set up an interview. When I finally got tired of it and said so basically what you're trying to tell me is I'm overpaid right? he quickly ended the interview. I thought I wouldn't want to work there anyway so I might as well get out of there.

That's just par for the course these days.

You should also look into applying at a car dealership. Summer times during school I worked at dealers as a lot attendant. It's mindless work, just moving cars around or doing whatever the manager told you to do. But I was 18 so it wasn't that bad.
