Just got an email from Amazon stating the fee will increase to $99 when it renews next month. I guess $20 isn't as bad, we use it quite a bit. They also haven't raised it for quite some time now so I suppose it was due.

It sucks that the fee is going up but not a big surprise.

It does suck they use FedEx SmartPost though. I've had nothing but problems with that. Stuff gets stolen from the box (but I still get the box), stuff is late (I paid for expedited shipping but it arrives days later) and things get delivered to a different address.

Amazon always makes good on it, but FedEx SmartPost blows pure and simple. There is a reason they are cheaper and it's not because they are better.

Interesting play by Amazon. They were supposedly considering charging 119 earlier this year, but doing this with the intention of charging 99 from the start is a nice way to keep people from being too disappointed. Or maybe I'm thinking too deep into it. Either way, $20 is a small cost for 2 day prime shipping, especially when you order items that have a release date, you can use prime shipping to get it on the day of.

I don't care about the change. They added the prime videos without bumping the fee. I still get enough value out of it. If I didn't order so much from them, it would be a different story.

From what they sent me mine will stay at $39 when I renew this month and it will increase to $49 on the next one. Looks like I just made it in time to renew at the cheaper rate.

It's hard to complain for what you get.

But I have to say, all this talk of 1% inflation is just as big a lie as saying the unemployment rate is 6% or whatever they are claiming these days. (7%, whatever). Everytime you turn around costs are going up - on every bill, groceries, gas, the only things that aren't are home values in this area (they are falling faster than a rock) and wages. Otherwise, inflation is alive and well no matter what lies the government pumps out to convince us otherwise.

I really don't begrudge it to Amazon though. I get full use of mine, let's just say.

Yep. It will be my fourth year so I am not sure if they will let me renew at the cheaper price the next time. If not then I will have to see if it will be worth it to me. Ever since they have started to charge sales tax in my state my purchases have drastically decreased.

I figured, one thing I did is I auctioned off the 4 amazon household spots. I was able to get $20 for each spot on ebay (4*20=80-ebay/paypal fees) all i did was cover the rest.
