Kind of a pet peeve of mine

Postby MemberSince99 » Sat Jun 15, 2013 8:40 am

Is employers, who lay off at the drop of a hat, and when they do that of course they do not give any notice - you are simply escorted to the door like a criminal and that is that. If they are really jerks they do not even allow you to collect your things in your cube, just get the hell out now. Personally, I've decided if they ever try that with me, I'm not leaving until I get my stuff, they can watch me do it, that's fine, but I'm not leaving without my personal belongings, and they can call the cops and have me arrested and tortured as a terrorist or whatever fascist crap they want to do, but a scene will occur if they ever attempt that stunt with me.

But my peeve is, these guys will not hesitate to lay people off, but I've still heard them say how anyone who leaves before they get around to downsizing you "owes" them the "required" two week notice. Um, dudes, you are "owed" nothing, anymore than you owe them, except paying them for what they worked, it's a courtesy not a requirement by law - we are employees not slaves we can walk out the door anytime. I just wonder how the hell do these guys get it into their heads that people "have" to do that. Treat people right and they generally will go the extra mile for you, but it's not at all a requirement, and I get tired of listening to the people who preach about loyalty but don't practice it saying how we "owe" them this. Um, no, we don't, anymore than you "owe" us notice before you have us walked out the door.

Since I'm on pet peeves here, and this is the non-credit area where anything and everything within reason is up for discussion, there are a few users on the FICO site, that reading their posts makes me angry. They are condescending, rude, arrogant and think their droppings don't stink like the rest of us unwashed losers. One in particular, CreditScholar, just rubs me totally the wrong way. Every post is how special, rich and wonderful he is, usually when lecturing/scolding others how they are the opposite. Geez dude, were you born just that special, or did you work on it? I think Paris Hilton as a male when I think of that one.

And if you really are wonderful, rich and special, how shallow must one be to make sure everyone else is aware of that fact? I personally don't see much, just another upper management sort who thinks making decisions that get a company into being bailed out entitles him to a bonus that we the taxpayer get to fund. That's just a guess, but what is for sure is, this guy sure is full of himself whoever he is. I bet it's damn hard for him to tear himself away from the mirror in the morning so memerized by his stunning good looks is he.

Yeah I find it to be a childish act to escort someone like that. A few months ago my department had lay offs and they did the same thing to me (was only working 3 months btw). Although, they did let me go back up alone and grab my stuff? lol, The whole experience is amusing though because everyone in the HR room looks so sad for you (and I still have a smile on lol). I could care less that I was part of the lay off because I wasn't thrilled in the direction the company was heading and was closing in on another job anyway (which I have now).

My pet peeve: chefs/tv chefs holding a hand under a lemon when squeezing it to "catch the seeds." If I wanted to drink your hand sweat I will tell you, thank you very much.

For what it's worth I've only quit without giving notice twice. As long as they are at all decent, I'll do whatever I can, I'll even work extra when I'm gone (at least to a limited extent) for free to help transition, and I've stayed 3 weeks instead of two just to try to help them. I just feel no obligation to do it for jerks who treat you like a Roman mine slave.

My big thing is fake buttons.

Like in a car or on an appliance. It just sits there reminding you that you are not fancy enough to buy whatever feature.
