How long does it take to renew a passport in 2013?

I need to renew my passport and I'm leaving for Europe in about 60-70 days. Have I waited too long?

Even without expedited service, you're fine. I love the smell of a new passport.

That's how long it took mine (applied in January). State has a web page that shows the current processing time (search 'passport processing time'; should be near the top), which currently says 4-6 weeks for regular service. It's going to go up, as people renew for summer travel, so do it as soon as you can.

usually within 4-6 weeks, that gives you time but don't put it off cause something might come up and the time will sneak up on you and next think you know you have to pay a fee to get the process expedited.

I've been procrastinating/pretty busy for the last 4-5 weeks. I'm going to have to make time and get my butt down there this week for sure. Thanks, everyone.

Last time I renewed a passport was in 2007 and it took only about 2 weeks. The time before that I actually got it done overnight by a service that work paid for. So it's not too late. But bear in mind that once you send it off you will be in limbo. If you have any concern then you should probably pay the expediting fee,
