Any "shaving enthusiasts" here?

Postby paparoach429 » Mon Oct 22, 2012 1:08 am

I was at a mall the other day and walked into the store called "The Art of Shaving". I fell in love with some of the razors they have there. I know they are just regular razors with fancy handles on them and what not but they just struck me. My question is has anybody ever tried one of these? How to they hold up? Also theres 100s of other websites that sell these "modified" razors but I wonder if they are the same thing as far as supposidly being nickel plated and rust proof.

The AoS stores are a little out of my price range, but I do love looking. Gillette sent me a Fusion for my 19th birthday and I've used it ever since. But I do want to know what it's like getting a shave from a straight razor.

Quite the opposite, actually. I've grown to resent my twice/thrice daily communion with the buzzing Braun. I'm far too uncoordinated to be dragging a blade across my face, especially in the a.m. Now if I were wealthy and had a valet/manservant to do a morning shave with a straight razor, that would be acceptable.

On a side note, you have to have noticed the way mainstream shaving products for both men and women are hyper***ualized by advertisers. It's as if all the ad people who used to make cigarette ads moved over to shaving products when they became redundant.

OMG, really. We can't say s/e/x?

Actually like Vermonster, Gillette sent me a fusion as well, but for my 18th and like him, I've been using it ever since. I have thought about getting an electric razor, but some of them look a tad bit more expensive IMO.

Yeah, I noticed that last week when I went off on a rant.

I can get away with not shaving most of the time. The only time I need to have a smooth face is for court. I've considered getting a nice safety razor, but I can't bring myself to commit to it. The idea of paying $2 for a Gillette blade that will last a week is outrageous.

I dont know about you guys but I only shave completely about once every 2 weeks. I usually line in up everything once or twice in that time, and then when my beard and sideburns grow out I shave everything off.. I can see not being too enthused about shaving if your one of those people who have to shave everyday. lol. Im not too thrilled about the battery/electric shavers since they are more expensive, blades cost alot, and you will NOT get as close of a shave as with a blade. Ive been growing quite fond of using my straight razor lately and let me tell you, it is worth it! My skin is very sensitive so i literally get a smooth shave with one swipe. Its not like using a gillette where you have 4 or 5 blades on it and you usually have to go over the same spot a few times. The Art of Shaving kits are pretty pricey considering it is just a regular $8 razor with a modified nickel or chrome plated handle but its one of those things imo that is nice to have and look at. Its like having a Rolex or a Ferrari, theres many that are cheaper but some people like having the best for what they like.

I use disposable pink plastic razors...but then again I don't have to shave my face. I'm a girl. :)
