Black Friday Is Almost Here! Where will you be?

Postby Gamma » Sun Sep 30, 2012 1:04 am

So we have a little over a month till Black Friday comes. Do you guys have any plans on what you will be buying that day? Anyone will be doing their shopping online? I'm hoping they do the $200 TVs they did last year in Best Buy, but offer more than just 10 TVs per store :( Seems like too much work forming a line 2~3 days early to be one of the first costumers to get their hands on those kind of deals. Also, which card will you be putting it on?

I'll be observing Buy Nothing Day. If I do any holiday shopping, it will be extremely limited, all online and not on Buy Nothing Day. In years past I have made charitable donations on behalf of friends and the charity has sent them a card noting that a gift was made in their honor. I'll be doing that again this year. Last year I think "charity" was a bonus category for Chase Freedom during the fourth quarter, but I don't think it is this year. The only gift I'm interested in receiving is money, either for a cause I care about or myself. I have plenty of crap and don't need any more.
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

No way am I going to leave Thanksgiving dinner with the family to go wait in line for a TV! I might watch for some early specials and I might check out cyber Monday. I did try getting out at 7am one Black Friday morning just to say that I was there once, waited 2 hours to check out then ended up having to return the defective item.

PS I'm getting my mom a wireless home phone connect from Straighttalk. I'll add some $15 cards so she gets free long distance.
