I used to feel NAKED without my watch on. Now, I rarely wear either of my two watches. All day at work I sit at a computer and it actually gets bothersome when I'm typing out an email and it's clanging on the desk. At home I'm a mesh shorts and t-shirt kinda guy so no watch worn. Granted, sometimes it takes a watch to complete a "look". Having a clock & date on both a computer and on my iPhone almost makes a watch redundant 95% of the time.

Watch collecting is a passion.

I mostly collect from the indie watch makers such as Steinhart, Prometheus, Orient, etc.

I ones worked with a guy that was always on time and never stressed. I asked him how he was always so prompt to make it to work even though he never wore a watch to tell him. He explained that when you wear one, you are controlled by it. He challenged me to go 28 without a watch and see how I can still be on time but not controlled by time. So I did. Now I'm not constantly looking at my watch, see what time it is and letting that bother me. I never wear one now.

But, if I needed one for a night out on the town. I would want to buy a good looking on. I have to make it a point to do so some time. I do not look good in gold, so silver or platinum would have to do. But for now when I wear a suit, I have a stainless steel Patriots watch. $29.99 from Avon. :ppp

I never wear a watch either. I have Outlook at work to tell me when I have to go waste time in some useless meeting (where typically I'm being blamed for everything, or justifying why I'm there for another week) and the rest of the time I'm too damn busy to notice the time anyway as they change the requirements like the weather. All I really care about is what time I can get the hell away from that loony bin and the a-holes within it.

On my time I couldn't care less what time it is for the most part. I eat when I'm hungry sleep when I'm tired and do what I want when I want. And that's a hell of a lot better than being regimented like a machine at work.

I do have a watch but not like I've seen here I couldn't afford those. I paid under 100 for mine and that seemed like a lot of money when I got it. Yeah I'm one of those poor souls who works for a living (a dumbass for sure, I know that's a fools game but it is what it is).

Panerai is the moniker I have been wearing for the past 2 years.

It's different and a bit more 'rare' than Rolex.

I like it...but its all personal opinion. Some hate it some love it.

For me, it is all a fascination with the mechanical aspect of the watch itself, and very little with simply telling time. If that's all I was worried about, I'd just use my phone. Over the weekend I tried on a Breguet tourbillon worth 130K. Way out of my price range, but the tourbillon movement was absolutely fascinating to watch. The quality, movement, complications, etc, are what I'm obsessed with. I have a true appreciation for these brilliant watchmakers, and the masterpieces they create.

Check out Authenticwatches.com, they have most current Rolex models for sale and their prices are pretty average.

I find it inappropriate in some situations to use my phone to check the time. That's why I still wear my watch. Plus, I'm not big on accessories so my watch is my "jewelry" in addition to one ring and pearl studs (sometimes swapped for other styles but always studs). On the flip side, I also find it inappropriate to wear a watch for formal occasions. I once read somewhere that if you're wearing a watch it means you're concerned with the passing of time; when at a formal event one does not wish to present this way so hence no watch is ideal. But of course there are "dress" watches now so YMMV.

My dream watch is a Cartier tank. I have wanted one for ten years and don't expect my desire will change. Only question is whether to go new or vintage.

I feel the same, but right now my pieces are ones that ive wanted since I was a kid. The breitling when I got into aviation. The omega since I saw goldeneye as a kid, and the rolex because my uncle had one when I was a kid. I just turned 30, so I feel that im old enough for the rolex now. In my 20s I figured that people would think it was fake :/
