I think a watch is the best idea, but if you were thinking along the lines of Apple products price range, then I would suggest Bose QC noise canceling headphones. It was one of the more useful gifts I've received and something I wouldn't have gotten myself.

Another idea could be a nice writing instrument like a Mont Blanc.

Rolex submariner. Good first Rolex if he doesn't already have one. IF you want something more unique, go with a Panerai.

When I graduated my parents gave me was a trip for me and my two best friends in Central America, the truth was perhaps the best trip of my life ... and obviously a unique gift that will never forget
