Well what I would say is the Shell station, do they have the same prices for cash as for credit? Where my dad goes to Hess credit is the same price as cash. but other gas stations, cash is from 3.53 to 3.59 while credit is from 3.63 to 3.69 depending upon the gas station.
What I would say is if you are not being charged any extra for using your credit card I would continue to use your platinum card.
if at shell the price is 3.65 for cash price and 3.75 for credit, this is what I would do I would apply for the shell card.
it sounds like the card is a charge card you can only use at the gas station. don't apply for the card that has an annual fee of 25.00. get the no annual fee card, remember this is a shell charge card not an American express zync card.
when you look at a credit report some people have 2 macy's cards. 1 is the store card and the other 1 is the American express card. they both go on a report as Macys. same as if you have a wal mart card or wal mart Discover, the wal mart card and Discover both report on a credit report under wal mart, not walmart Discover or even Discover.
the difference is those stores make money because you are using the card. however when you use your Discover to purchase something at evelyn and crabtree or american express at J crew you get rewarded plus the stores have to go through the major financial companies and a certain percentage is taken out. so those cards like Brooks brothers mastercard, ll bean visa, Nordstrom visa, Macy's american express and walmart Discover are credit cards.
While the cards without the logo that you can only use in the store like kohls, Jc penny, Lord &taylor, Banana republic, express, etc. those cards that you can only use in the store, outlet or online so we call them charge cards. from the mastercard version to the store version the par is the same from 24.99 to 29.99 the only difference is the acceptance so we call them visa or mastercard version credit card, the store version charge card.
it works the same way as with gas. if your shell has a mastercard logo on it you would be charged the same gas price as if you used a chase or citibank mastercard credit card. but if you get the gas card you would get charged the cash price, the gas cards go on the credit report the same as the stores, the only difference is when you buy gas the shell mastercard charges extra, but you get coupons or a credit on your statement. where if you have a macys american express you need to bring your coupons, unless the store has coupons but you pay the same amount of purchase whether you use your macys store or american express.
