I've done this. I went from having an Access Checking account to a regular to a premier Joint account with my wife. I also just recently was able to get a Pier 1 Imports Card and Chase Freedom card.

I also paid off all negative things impacting my credit during this time (Over the course of 2 years), and the further I was away from that date of clearing my credit, it improved to the point that I can be in this position now.

If you manage it correctly, it can help you.

This is weird, never had a bank run CR on me for a checking account...Just 2 years ago I had to open a checking with a regional bank and never saw any CR pulls with the big 3 from that bank.

Chase access checking is a good way to learn how to manage a checking account better than you have in the past. chase will not allow you to have checks with this acct, however there is free bill pay. Down falls of acct can be there is a $15 mo service fee which can be reduced to $10 w/direct deposit, when your checking acct bal get to $100 or less you will not be able to use your debit card @ any retailer you will have to go to the ATM to withdrawal the funds. If you keep your account in good standing for 9mos you can call & have your acct converted to a chase total checking $0 service charge with direct deposit. I had this account & after my 9mo I had it converted to a regular checking acct & now i manage my checking acct so much better. I have been with chase for 2yrs & I've only had 1 NSF charge in which they refunded because i had not over-drafted my acct the entire time. If you wld like more info about this acct I would be happy to share.

I would recommend Wood Forest Bank

There are many banks that offer promotions for checking accounts for people with negative markings on their chexsystems report.

Wood Forest gives checks to people too, not just a bank card
