FICO makes money of off royalties not public image. They have established themselves as the defacto credit scoring agency, so very little will threaten their hold on the credit world. 4chan could be their forums and the general public wouldn't care

But who do they have in place to moderate it? It's still their choice. It's as easy to put competent people in place as useless people, especially in this scenario.

I understand they can mostly do as they please. My point was more that it is surprising that this is what they want to do and / or simply don't care.

Obviously you don't have these answers. It just seems odd is all.

The moderators are, sorry to say, largely a joke. They are hypersensitive anytime anyone questions someone's decision to apply for a card for example. It's ridiculous. I guess they want people to app away, but it's just crazy.

The community there in general really frowns on anyone who says anything about their ideas making no sense. For example, people signing up for $450 AF Amex Platinum cards who don't even travel, or even a PRG....you are literally wasting inquiries for nothing. The cards benefit travelers and really no one else, considering you can't cash out at any reasonable value. Yet people with thin, fragile files who are just starting off are egged on to begin the game of "churning". It's clear that I dislike churning but even if I were all for it, I wouldn't be telling people new to building credit that it's a good idea! It makes me sad to see people who say they have a mortgage app coming up in the next 6 months, but have opened like 8 new credit cards in the past 4 months....you will pay for those rewards many, many, many times in higher mortgage interest.

MF is like some weird version of flyertalk. At least flyertalk is pretty blunt about the fact that they exist to help people game the system/points. MF pretends to be a haven for credit advice/building credit when in reality, it's some bizarre mix of gaming the system and just impulse bad decisions. Neither of which will get you far in building credit. Most newbies on there end up getting talked into taking on 5, 8, or 12 new cards, juggling rewards and payments, etc when not everyone is ready to do all that!

I never really feel that I attack anyone on there; I merely try to tell people plainly when I think they are being foolish/impulsive. Whether it has honestly stopped any bad behavior, I don't know. I try to remind myself that most people are not going to listen (and the ones who need to listen the most listen the least), and have already decided to do what they will, but it's hard because I want to help. *shrug

Some people can't take help.

You expressed more clearly what I was trying to express about the atmosphere over there.

You mean.....Like this guy? I remember this one from not that long ago, already filing BK7...

Also, Zoom is a fucking idiot. Pure and simple. They claim to make 175K with their "partner/spouse/f buddy" yet somehow continue to have debt problems and high utilization. Same bullshit as all the "1%'ers" over there who keep applying and asking for CLIs.

Honestly I think a lot of those people are in way over their heads. Im sorry, but I cannot fathom that so many have 25 cards they regularly spend on, yet always 1 percent util...I think a lot of them overspend to get rewards. Why else would everyone be constantly wanting BT and 0 percent offers? There are good reasons to use those, absolutely, but they are bandaids for a larger problem that I think a lot of them have.

So was there one particular thread or comment that was the "last straw" that triggered this ban?
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

I feel like he said someone made an attack thread directed at him and he responded / they had it out and then he got banned. I haven't seen the thread though I would like to. Sounds crazy.

It was the thread where open123 was talking about american airlines devaluations. Finstar helpfully chimed in with "kdm doesnt pay my bills", after I said the only person open123 needs to please is themselves.

In other words basically I had the same point as finstar but he misread mine as the opposite and made a snide comment like usual, so I responded and somehow its my fault for derailing the thread even though he started it. And of course, he is still actively posting, so as usual I was punished and the instigator left alone.

Finstar is one of those who initiates fights but is so good at BSing and impressing members that they dont see it. People look up to him with his huge limits etc which I think are either BS, or else someone so wealthy shouldnt be wasting their time on cc sites. Its stupid.

Hard to be Friendly, Supportive and respectful (which in and of itself is complete horseshit!) when the other party is delusional. I can't Imagine I'll be too far behind. I pay the $29.95 for Credit and Score monitoring, but that probably won't be forever.
