Paying down medical debt question

Postby cindymtz13 » Tue Sep 22, 2015 11:19 am

So I have about $4600 is medical debt. I plan on paying this all off. I want to pay for delete on the lesser amounts and negotiate the larger amounts down to about half. Some of them are due to fall off soon or have already reached their statute. If an account in collections has already reached it's statue can the collection agency still collect on it and can it still be reflected on my credit report? I plan on recording the conversation while I am paying these debts off. My question is, is recording the conversation enough or should I have something in writing? Should I not pay it off until they send me a letter in the mail detailing our agreement or should I request an email? My other question is after I pay these accounts off, how long will it take for them to be deleted from my credit report and the negotiated ones to be marked as paid. Any help I'd greatly appreciate thank you.

We need a lot more information. It sounds like you have one bill for $4600 that has some late payments or may have been charged off. The "correct" way to deal with these will depend on what has happened and how long ago.

I agree, more info would help.

One thing I can tell you is it is always best to get these agreements in writing--always. I suppose email would suffice but I prefer ink on paper.

Good luck!

These are multiple medical bills totaling 4600.00. None have charged off, they are all in collections. They range in dates between 2011 and 2014. The smaller bills are for a couple of a hundred and the larger bills are for 6 or 7 hundred.
