What's your idea of a country with a good government?

One where people aren't drowning in college debt, health insurance costs, and one where the government doesn't sit on it's hands and allow the use of insecure payment systems that were replaced years ago. Do you think our government is doing a good job?

On college education, yes. Around where I live (suburbs of NYC and Los Angeles) there are state and community colleges that are affordable and have a good reputation. The people who get into student debt are the ones who go to mediocre private colleges (which are still expensive).

Healthcare is an awful hodgepodge of public and private, group and individual, state and federal programs. Either the Swiss extreme (for better outcomes), or the Swedish one (for lower costs) could be an improvement. We pay more than either (heck, we pay more than anyone) but have bad patient outcomes. But whereas the political left has a vision of how to improve things (and they were pushing for it before the ACA became subject to awful compromises), I just don't see any useful ideas coming from the political right on this. Republicans complain about the rising cost of Obamacare premiums, but how do they actually plan to fix things?

Not sure but I'd have to say reduced or no regulations (regarding health insurance). .

Get rid of the free preventative care for women. Why do we need that? Women should have to pay for their own preventative care at a reduced rate the health insurance company decides. Right now we have both a form of socialized healthcare and a form of free market healthcare (sorta like a hybrid) and that's a very big problem.

If I'm a single grown man I don't need preventative healthcare for women, so why is it included in my plan and why am I forced to pay for it? Why do I receive a $700 yearly fine out of my taxes if I don't want to pay the ridiculous prices these health insurance companies offer?

We either need a complete socialized healthcare system, or one with the only regulation being how much an insurance company can bill an individual or family every month.

I'm not a doctor, but my family has two and several self-employed people who have had to buy their own insurance. They tell me how health insurance companies used to be far worse and often denied perfectly legitimate claims. Some industries need to stay regulated.

Can you think of a country with a good health care system and minimal regulation? I can't.

Whichever way it ends up going...I have to say I'm surprised by how indifferent I feel.

Hopefully with Trump winning, and the republicans winning the senate and house, we'll see Obamacare disappear for something that'll actually work.

I am not sure who is more unhappy this morning, Hillary Clinton or Ted Cruz.

Or Bill Clinton since Hillary will be around the house all the time now.

It's sad how much more attention went to Clinton's emails (which never led to any charges) than the fraud and RICO charges Trump is facing in NY.

I think Trump is going to spend a lot of time hanging out with Bernie.

Madoff, that is.

I didn't vote for either of them, but I'm chuckling on the inside at how upset the DNC must be right now after slanting the primary in Hillary's favor. They blocked the only candidate that could have beat Trump for the sake of Hilary getting the nomination. There are so many people that supported Bernie, that didn't either vote or voted for Trump that it made his lead that much greater.

When this thread dies down, this question will be revisited in 4 years I'm sure. Let's see him fix all the problems he said he would with republicans controlling the house and Senate.
