The return went smoothly. I'll get a computer there again in the future if its has some good reviews.

They gave me a check, so there's no change in my Arrival billing. My Arrival bonus isn't going to be reversed.

Technically, it might constitute accidental MS. I call it all a giant headache, and don't suggest anyone try to do anything similar for gain.

Why in the world would they do that and not just reverse the charge? Outside of the 14 day return policy or something?

Actually, the policy is 90 days for most electronics, including computers. I'm not sure why they didn't reverse the charge. They just asked me if I wanted cash, store credit, or a check and I said a check.

This is not the post I wanted to read today lol. Yesterday I ordered a new laptop for work use. I had originally had my eyes on Lenovo then I found out it had to have Win 7 . No problem here as I'm not a huge fan of Win 8. Lenovo still had Win 7 options but none that delivered in time so I ended up getting a Dell Inspiron.

Although I am typing this on an HP desktop I am a Mac guy. This desktop is almost five years old now and when it goes I'll probably replace it with a iMac.

The laptop I just bought cost about $125 more to get with Win 7 instead of Win 8. It's definitely a business laptop but has a 5th gen i7, 8 gigs of mem, and 1 TB HDD. The HDD is 5400RPM so it will probably take half an hour to boot but the SSD option was way too much and they didn't offer a hybrid option. The major downside is the display is only 1366 x 768; I've gotten so used to the Retina on my MacBook Pro...

I could have done much better if I didn't need it by Friday but hopefully I won't have any issues with it. I have the weekend to get it set up and Monday I hit the road with it...

Business machines are solid though, especially when buying direct from the manufacturer. Also, the business line of laptops from most companies offer much better support and parts/repair assistance far longer than the standard line of computers. Every computer I own is part of HP, Lenovo or Sony's business lines and all of them are flawless with no mechanical failures ever.

To the OP: I highly recommend that you save a couple hundred dollars and buy a 21.5" iMac and save yourself anymore headaches. You get the computer, plug it into power, connect the keyboard and mouse, and you are off to the races. An incredibly reliable and beautiful computer that you can enjoy for years to come with no worries of any viruses whatsoever.

I'm returning the Dell laptop for a Lenovo. It's an okay laptop but has a few keys and USB port that were DOA. I had no choice but to use it for the project I was doing but now that I have time, I ordered the Lenovo. With a dead USB port and keys, Amazon isn't questioning the return.

The Lenovo is essentially the same computer but with a higher res (1080 v 768) screen and 7200rpm HDD. Those two things will make it seem like a totally different computer though. I can't believe they even still use 5400rpm drives... Oh, it also has an optical drive, which I didn't want but can deal with. I travel rarely for work so the added thickness and weight isn't a huge deal.

Again, I had to pay $100 more to get Win 7 :beat: I actually prefer 7 over 8 but I think it's lame to pay more for an older OS. I know how it goes though.

Wow, DOA? Sounds like a refurb with random parts malfunctioning like that.

And yes, buying Win7 blows when all these jackals are charging a premium for it now. I have a Lenovo E430, heavy business laptop, but totally worth it. Mechanically flawless for the past few years I've had it and awesome battery with a ton of USB ports too. Only thing I hate is Lenovo, at least in the past, flogged their Win7 Pro laptops with tons of bloatware that sucks up the computer's resources big time. I feel bad for anyone who doesn't know how to remove them.

I may end up doing that.

Are there any Amex offers for Apple products floating around?

Discover's 12% cash back might be hard to beat. Savings through Costco are (AFAIK) limited to Windows computers.

For real! The Dell was LOADED with that crap. I spent three hours doing updates and removing unwanted programs. I really don't use anything that's preinstalled. I'm sure the Lenovo will be the same...
