AAdvantage miles

Postby jcarte29 » Wed Apr 22, 2015 8:53 am

Last Thursday I had quite the ordeal with a return flight from CLT to OAJ (Charlotte, NC to Jacksonville, NC). Just to save you from the details, I filed a complaint with American Airlines afterward hoping for a quick response and some sort of compensation/resolution. To their credit they responded within 12 hours.

The question is what is the value (Maybe $ value or at least perceived) of the 7,500 AAdvantage miles they credited as their proposal to rectify my complaint?

It's not a question about if it was the right response since I didn't give the thread any details (personally I don't wanna bore the thread with them, it'll only make me mad again lol). I don't fly a lot and have only been a Divided Miles/AAdvantage member since August of 2014, and just want feedback from those who do it more often than me. (Honestly if you fly 3 or more times a year you're flying more than me).

For comparison's sake, my request was a refund of the $250 I spent on a Taxi to finish the trip I was supposed to finish in the air (From RDU to OAJ) and a first class roundtrip domestic voucher.

Thanks in advance!

Well just in regards to relative value compared to what you asked for, a round trip domestic reward ticket I first generally runs about 50k miles. 7k is typically AA's "we don't really think we owe you anything, but here's something now go away".

It's tricky with miles to assign a dollar value to them, since reward flights are grouped together by region, not cost, meaning that round trip coach flight from Miami to Seattle is 25k miles, just like that round trip coach flight from Oklahoma City to Dallas. In the above example to cost of the flights will be wildly different, but they're both domestic flights and therefore coat the same number of miles to redeem.

Great insight! Thank you! I did some more searchin and figured out somewhat of the same reaction (We don't think we owe you...etc). Part of me is almost as pissed with the response as the actual events that transpired (funny enough a week ago tonight). The other part of me just will chalk it up as bad luck that particular flight and thank goodness it wasn't anything more pressing like a major storm or something more intense (it was a maintenence issue that grounded my first flight which started the chain of events...)

On a side note- I Love the new forum look! Great job admin! Keep up the good work.

I'm a fairly regular flyer on AA. If you PM me with specifically what happened, so as not to bore the rest of the forum with it, I may be able to provide additional insight.

So how cool is it that one of my service customers today works for US Airways, and she gave me some great insight about the merger, operations and otherwise. She's been there 4 years, I told her about my experience and she replied that they *should have* paid for my taxi back to OAJ or offered at least.

I also asked her about whether they are keeping the prop planes as they complete the merger. She said while those prop planes are the most fuel efficient of the fleet, they also present the most problems (what a shocker! ie what happened to mine last week) and that they want to phase them out in lieu of the American Eagle Regional Jets. It's just that some runways at the smaller airports will have to be extended to accomodate.

She also was shocked my issues with that flight had to do more with maintenence than fog, as it gets pretty bad at EWN (New Bern, NC) being right on the river channel (OAJ has the same issue but to a lesser extent).

It was a great casual chat, and I appreciated her willingness to take my questions.

Hm. 7,500 AAdvantage miles is not a lot. Can you propose a different solution to them?
