Any Audiophiles Out There?

Postby nowipaco » Tue Apr 14, 2015 10:16 am

Just wondering if there are any fellow audiophiles in the creditcardforum community besides myself. I have an interest in home audio, but given my age and current student status, very nice headphones and amps are more of my thing right now. Headfi.org is a personal favorite of mine.

My current favorite pair of buds are my Shure SE535.

I love Shure, some of the best out there, I currently have Sony XBA-4.
unfortunately people are so caught up in trend that they think that Beats are the best headphones out there.

Any suggestions for wireless buds that stay in place while a person runs? I've given up on corded buds since I always tend to catch the cable with my arms or knock them loose one way or another. I'm willing to pay up for something that works.

I use a Samsung Galaxy S4, if it matters.

I've tried Bose headphones and Beats before and neither of those lasted that long for me.

I currently use much cheaper Skullcandy headphones and they have served me quite well. I've also had the smaller Sennheiser buds before and those were decent too.

Velodyne vQuiet...when they went on sale for $100 last year.

Not really impressed with them, but the noise cancellation works very well.

I have an interest in better audio but wouldn't call myself an audiophile. I'm certainly not going to pay for some expensive cables that don't perform any better than coathangers in blind testing with alleged audiophiles or anything of the sort. There's a certain point in the price/performance curve that I'm comfortable with.

For mobile listening I'm still using my Ety ER-4P but a while back added the S adapter and an older Headstage Arrow amp.

Back at home the main system is a set of Magnepans (MC1, CC3 & MMGW) paired with an Emotiva amp and an older SVS cylinder sub -- can't remember the exact model off the top of my head.

Had to settle for smaller Paradigm MilleniaOnes in the living room due to the wife but I need to get a sub for them -- probably a smalled sealed sub from SVS. Same sort of thing in the bedroom -- the compromise was an Atlantic PB-235 sound bar but there's just no room for a sub in there.

I guess even the Maggies were a bit of a compromise since they're wall mounted models aside from the CC3.

when i first bought my car a 1994 300zx the person who i bought it from was an audiophile. He had the car speakers rewired, each speaker has a low profile amp (some strange stuff but i havent messed with it). He kept his sub and main amp so i bought one later on- since then i have been into it as well i cant stand crappy sound.

As for earphones i have:

Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 w/ 24awg silver litz cable...

Has anyone tried out the new Pono digital player? I saw Neil Young give a presentation about it at SXSW Interactive last year. It's supposedly the only way to get true high fidelity in a digital file format.

I know it does not really fall under audiophile, but I recently bought a pair of Xiaomi Piston III & Piston II earbuds after reading some rave reviews on them for the price. I plan to see which I prefer and give the other set as a gift.
