Ok in all seriousness, I figured I'd share with you what I've learned/done since I last posted here, just to hopefully help people, though I'm sure it will be a joke to others....
Anyway, I have not closed a single card. I am up to 14 of them. Never say never, but I don't have any I'm currently interested in getting. (In fact I have too many but that's probably true with a lot of us).
I have added a Barclay Arrival Plus. It's the World Elite version which is what I wanted. Limit is 7.5k, and I put a lot of spend on it to get the sign up bonus, and I haven't used it much since then. If I do some travel for work it will see some use.
I added a Citi Double Cash card. The limit is 6.6k. I just moved a balance from my flooring card (whose limit I'd like to transfer if possible to something else) to avoid getting hit with interest for my flooring. It has the 0% for 15 months. So I can comfortably pay that off and the flooring won't cost me interest.
I added a Discover card. That card has seen most of my spending lately. I don't really have a reason just that I like dealing with Discover. They gave me a starting limit of 5.5k, and when I went on to pay my bill just this morning, I thought I've had it since December I can ask for a CLI, so I went in, it was active, I filled in the questions, and they gave me 1k more. First time I've ever gotten a CLI from Discover. From what I can tell, what I've read of them liking to be your every day card and lots of swipes seems to be true from that - every other time I had asked them they declined me. Before I put big spend on it but not many swipes; this time it was moderate spend but lots of swipes. Seems they like lots of swipes/more activity more than big purchases.
When I saw that the Amazon card was now the Prime card if you have that membership and gives 5% back on Amazon, as much as I spend there, I had to have that. I got it with a 2.9k limit. I have been heavily using that and Discover with some Amex lately and that's been close to it. I requested a CLI when I first got it and it was declined because basically the account was too new.
On the subject of limits, I know I'd posted how I finally got a CLI on my Amex EDP from 2k to 6k. That was last June. In December I knew I could request again, so I requested from 6k to 18k, and it was approved. That is now my highest limit card.
I have had my FNBO Dodge MasterCard since August so I called last month to ask if there were any SP CLIs available to me on the card (first time I asked) and was told no, so I said ok that's cool thanks for checking. I haven't used it much lately and probably won't - I use it strictly for vehicle repairs at the dealer.
I experienced my first case of a stolen credit card about a month ago. I noticed a charge on the card I didn't make from Spotify, which I had no idea what that even was until I Googled it. I've only used the card (my Chase Freedom) at a couple of restaurants locally, so I'm guessing they stole my info there.
Again, I will say this is why you do NOT want 50 credit cards hanging out there if you are not using them just because as the Einsteins of credit over at the fad card of the month board say "it doesn't hurt anything to leave it open". I would beg to differ with that, and I speak from personal experience - if you do not catch it in a timely fashion and deal with it and get it removed, it WILL hurt you and you will get to fund some thief's online music listening pleasure along with whatever else they steal. It really annoys the living crap out of me when those idiots spout like it's gospel that leaving a bunch of unused credit cards laying around is totally harmless. Hopefully they never have to learn the truth the hard way. So I called Chase and notified them right away and got it removed and that card cancelled and a new account created. And this is why it's important to have more than one card - it took about a week to get the new card.
Other than that, it's about it. I just don't have enough that happens new with credit for it to make sense posting here much, and I frankly am not interested in posting just to entertain people with rants that become jokes, so I don't see myself posting often, but when there is something to say I'll say it; otherwise, hope you are all doing well in both your credit card journeys and life's journey.
