So one of the big four wins one of the 12 regional customer satisfaction surveys and that's proof?

I don't know how much I trust the customer ratings by JD Powers anyway. Using your Florida example (since I am a Florida native who lived 30+ years there and did business at one point with almost all the banks on that list), I would bank with BB&T before anyone else on that list. SunTrust, who is the bees knees according to JD Powers is one of the worst banks I've dealt with (other than BoA who deserves their last place ranking). Chase? I've never banked with them (other than credit cards which I've had great service with-better than the JD Powers CC winners Amex and Discover), but I know people in Florida who absolutely loathe Chase. I have a friend in Miami who only banks with Chase because they are the only bank in their area who has tellers who speak and understand English at a passable level.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

If good management and customer service (rather than sheer size and systemic importance, as I and others contend) were criteria for survival, then why is BofA still around?

Their footprint is so large that they're like your typical convenience store. Sure, the service is often rude and the prices(fees) are high but they are on every other street corner so there's one when you need it.

Chase is number one in one of those areas but

they rank pretty high (like 4 stars) on average and at worst is 3 stars

I mean if you think that's bad you don't want to be around muni sf when they thought going from a D rating to C was great and they had ads rolling and everything

i think even if the proof is there you aren't going to believe or care judging by your answer and the "i's"

originally I had also added yelp reviews, one of chase with perfect ratings and one of a cu with 3s average but hey,
can't trust yelp either I bet

Also wanted to add that in my area, Wells Fargo and Bank of America has a huge portion of the pie, because, well, Wells Fargo started in this area and Bank of America has been around for ages, and was until recently, one of the largest depositor

Chase and citi represent a smaller footprint and even though citi has less branches, they have a higher customer base, shock shock.

Chase is dead last in the big four.

First republic is pretty big here, as well as city national.

You know why chase hasn't been able to grab more customers? There's a lot of choices, besides that, a lot of smaller banks like east and west (who ate up another one, something commercial I forget) and union bank, us bank, bank of the west, etc

Than there's the credit unions, sffcu, patelco, provident, etc

Yet Bank of America and Wells Fargo dominate not only just because of their footprint but because people are too lazy to change (all those auto pays and bill pays!!) if they don't have a reason to

As in bofa and wells hasn't eff up enough for them to switch over to the 20+ other choices, all of which has a b&m..heck, even capital one opened up a cafe here

Food for thought--

Btw, when they do, the customers do switch, but at what numbers..that's the interesting thing.
