just booked...

Postby MB131174 » Thu Nov 20, 2014 7:48 pm

Well, in October I applied for the $450 AA MasterCard, and today I got my 50,000 bonus points. I promptly booked my trip to Seoul. Looking forward to it!

This is another example of why I hate airline cards, except for sign up bonuses. To fly from PIT to ICN, I have terrible flight times, an 18 hour layover on the way to Seoul, and the actual days I wanted were astronomical in points needed. The Crapitol One commercial about airline miles really is true. I'm only in Seoul for 4 nights. Wanted to stay 5 or 6. Would've cost me another 45,000 miles to stay one more day, which I did not have. I mean, I've always wanted to go to Korea, and here's my chance. I have yet to use miles and get good flights, and that's why I don't play the airline miles game, but instead just use my Discover card for everything and do the simple cash back thing. The AA card will be canceled once I'm back.

Take advantage of the lounge access on your layover!

I got a hotel. I'm not spending 18 hours in an airport. To be honest, I won't have a chance to use the lounge access at all on this trip. I have yet to figure out why lounges are so "desired".

Like anything else preference varies. We had a flight delay on a recent trip and spending the hours in the lounge beat biding our time elsewhere in the airport. More comfortable seating, less racket, freely available power outlets, better WiFi, snacks & drinks, dedicated airline reps (useful for updates on our delayed flight but would have been even more valuable had we needed to reschedule as we wouldn't be stuck in the massive line with everyone else from the same flight rescheduling at the standard counter), better restrooms, etc.
