Default Food stamps are the new store credit card

With stores like Family Dollar now accepting food stamps (EBT cards) those food stamp cards sound like they're what is becoming more popular than store credit cards anywhere that sells groceries now.

Here's a mention in Reuters about Family Dollar - Shop Talk » Blog Archive » Food stamp ramp-up | Blogs |

What happens when the only way a chunk of the population can afford groceries is with credit cards or food stamp cards? Big problem there.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More

Might be so - but first you actually have to qualify for food stamps. With state/federal budgets going south -- they will really put every applicant through the ringer.

Yep states are all broke and in Cali they are saying they probably will delay giving us our state tax refunds because they don't have the money right now to pay us back.... total BS some people like me need that money.

Yeah, I heard that too. Schwarzenegger wants to make tax refunds IOUs. Wonder how they'll react if people who file and actually owe just send the FTB a note - IOU whenever I feel like.

IOUs huh? Maybe I could do that with my bills, mortgage. I'll send the creditors an IOU note that I'll pay them later. I won't pay any interest for the late money either.

If I can't do that no reason a government should be doing that to its people.

If this economy keeps up crap I'll be going myself to get some foodstamps. I tell you it really burns me seeing these folks out there collecting unemployment for half a year while they are out on the side doing cash gigs making money under the table. I'm an independent contractor so I don't get any free ride unemployment check when I'm not not making money. What about folks like me? Then there are the folks that still have a job but get smacked with a big pay cut. It's time for Uncle Sam to give a hand to folks like us that work our butts off but don't qualify for these government handout programs.
