I was at Target today and they were giving me the pitch for the card at checkout.

I guess that means they are back at it and want cardmembers again?

Also the thing I really don't get about this is like credit card co's hate customers one day and dont want them and then now they are back at it try to get us to signup. Like why did Amex pay for so called high risk cardholers to close cards in 2008 if they are only going to re-issue them new ones? I totally don't get it.

Default In the case of amex...

incentivizing repayment and cancellation of some card members cards, it allowed them to get some of the debt they were most nervous about off the books. Incentivizing repayment is a lot cheaper than 100% chargeoff. As for them seeking new customers, that's how they make money. If they don't roll the dice, they aren't going to make anything.

Do they not make any money off existing customer though? I mean I know people that have cards for years and years and carry balances on them so those types of customers must be total cash cows.

LOL!! The headline today is that Target's 3rd quarter profit is up 18% and they are thanking their credit cards for it. wtf I thought they were hating their cardholders just a few months ago?! Not anymore I guess!

In the last 4 weeks I went three times to Target. Once I had to buy a net book (around $300.00), second time I bought some things for the house (around $50) and the third time I bought some PS3 Games (around $70). I was asked at the second and third time if I would like to save 10% and open a Credit Card with them. Not sure if it was just a coincidence or if they offer it based on your purchase/purchase amount. Cheap bastards don't want to let you save more than $10

I heard that Walmart is offering a card now as well. However since I do not like Walmart and do not want to support their business practices I can't talk about their offers (Haven't been there in approx 3 years).

Good point. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they tell their cashiers to only ask if it's below a certain dollar value. That being said, considering that Target is now raving about how much money their credit cards are making the company, you would think they wouldn't (or at least, shouldn't) mind giving away a few bucks to get people to open their crappy cards.

We just paid a large amount on our Target Visa, and the "censor" cut our credit limit in half. Never been late, or missed a payment. How bout them apples? They ruined my plan for my 10th anniversary. I was planning on using the card for a deposit hold. Oh well.

Were you using more than 50% of your credit limit for an extended period of time? That is unfortunate, but in all fairness, most credit cards will do the same thing if you are using too much of your credit limit.
