Thread: Macy's credit card review anybody?

Has anybody here had experience with the Macy's department store credit card? My second question is what are the differences between Macy's credit cards. They have five different ones:

1) Macy's Red Star Rewards Visa
2) Macy's Gold Star Rewards Visa
3) Macy's Platinum Star Rewards Visa
4) Macy's Elite Star Rewards Visa

I was told I would have to spent at least $2,500 annually at Macy's first using one of their other cards to qualify for the Elite Star Reward credit card but they also said it had the best rewards on it and the best features too. The Platinum version gives free services like coupons 12x a year and the Elite 18x a year.

I would like to hear any reviews of the Macy's credit cards to see if they are worth it or not. I'm only interested in them for the coupons they give and the gift certificates you can earn with spending if they are good enough.

My mom has a Macy's card and I don't know what one but I have heard Macy's credit card customer service is not exactly what you would call top notch. She said they sound lazy and don't sound like they care about helping you one way or another......totally apathetic. Then they CUT HER CREDIT LIMIT from $3,000 to $500 because she went a while without using it. They wouldn't reverse it and give it back either.

Only get a Macy's credit card if you are going to use it a lot and ALWAYS pay your bill ON TIME every single month.

the only point of having a store credit card is if you're trying to build up your credit record and can't qualify for a normal credit card. other than that store credit cards are an outdated fad! the reason people had them decades ago was because there was no such thing as universal charge cards that could be used everywhere. now that there are what's the point of a stupid macy's card?!

Macy's Visa is not too bad... the only thing that turns people off is that it is 2 separate credit lines. You have a Visa credit line and a Macy's credit line.

It is a Citi account, but they are a bit more flexible with offering credit to mid-risk people vs. the standard Citi portfolio cards. Even Sears is one Citi card a lot of people said is hard to get. Customer Service is very good.

You do have to spend 2500 at Macy's to qualify for the Black (Elite) card, but if you like Macy's that should not be too hard, You get the 3rd tier (Silver) card when you spend $1000-$2499 annually.

KC95 Do you have a Macy's card in order to give an informaed opinion? I have excellent credit and one department store card: Macy's. I got the card for the initial 10% off my first purchase years ago - and that day I purchased a dining room table and a mattrress set. I saved hundreds I now use it to receive an average of 20% off purchases simply by using the card. The coupons for 25% off all purchases are great - small cards you can carry in your wallet and good for a few months. There is a store a short walk from my office and I purchase clothing for me and my nephew, kitchenware, bedding, etc. there - convenient. The card is free. I pay all my card balances in full each month. This card saves me hundreds of dollars a year and costs me nothing. I agree that store cards have fallen out of favor and most give few or no benefits. But the "only" reason for having a Macy's card is not to build up credit and the only people who have them are not those who have bad or no credit. Why make such sweeping statements about the people who have certain cards? Especially when you are giving an opnion that may apply to some people you know, but clearly not to all - nor even most - people who have a Macy's card. This is a Macy's Card thread, correct? For people who want to learn about Mac's cards from those who have experience with them?

Would the Macy's Amex card be the easiest AMEX card to get?

I like Macys credit card.my credit limit is $1200 and its Platinum.They send me coupons every month 20-25% off any purchase(regular prices or clearance).You can find pretty good deals,especially on certain holidays.The only thing that i'm not so happy about is how much they charge every month fees and interest,e.g.if you have revolving balance of $300 and up,the total fees gonna be $20 and up depending on your balance.so if you add it up you'll get pretty big number you pay a year.but overall savings are great if you like designer clothes and shoes!

I opened a Macy's credit card on August, 2010. My credit limit was only $300.00. Today on September 21, 2010 I called Macy's, and ask if i'm eligible for an increase. I didn't ask how much I want for an increase, but they increase it to $1000.00. I'm surprise, that they increase me more than half of my original limit. No complaints about that. I love shopping at Macy's, even though the apr is 24.50% but I always pay full each month so I won't get charge alot of interest. Oh by the way, I used to messed up my credit and that's why my credit limit was $300.00. My credit score is getting better by months. :-)

When they mailed my card, it's was the elite card, which was pretty strange, because I'm suppose to get the red card first. I called Macy's and they told me that I used to have a Macy's credit card with them back in 2006, and because I spend and pay more than 2k in two months.
