Default CVS card and tricks to save more with it

Today I got two tubs of Colgate Total toothpaste for 99 cents per tube after using my CVS card and the Extra Care Bucks. The price was normally $3.99 per 4 ounce tube and it was on sale for $2.99 plus gave $2 Extra Care Bucks rebate after purchase. This is a fabulous value but the limit was 2 per CVS card account. Are there any tricks that I can use in the future to bypass the quantity limitations?

*Attention mods: I know the CVS card is not a credit card and if this should be moved to another section of the forum please feel free to.

I assume you're referring to the ExtraCare card, which is a loyalty card, not a credit card. I have one and use it every time I go to CVS. A few years ago CVS went into attack mode against Walgreen's in my neighborhood. They were opening stores right and left and sending out coupons for $50 gift cards, free stuff and huge discounts and other things to anyone in the neighborhood with an ExtraCare card. I must have gotten about $150 in free merch. and discounts by the time it was all over. Good times. Now I don't know of anything thing to boost CVS rewards, which have declined substantially now that the war is over.

I have Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS all within a block or two and there is no competition that I see going on. What had to be done to get $50 CVS gift cards? I take advantage of the $25 gift cards for switching prescriptions between pharmacies but have never seen promotions for $50. I might apply for multiple CVS card accounts to get around the quantity limit.

You aren't likely to see the rabid customer courtship from CVS unless they're coming into a new territory and trying to establish a foothold.

I have had problems not receiving my 2% cash back each quarter and that feels like a scam to me. Have you ever used manufacturer coupons on top of the CVS card savings? The diehard CVS'ers I have read save a lot by combining.

I use the CVS rewards card though the savings usually apply to name brands that are more expensive to begin with. Getting 50 cents off a box of Kleenex is silly if the CVS brand can be bought for $1 less. Not to mention CVS pricing is not competitive with the Wal-Marts and Targets.

There are deals to be had with the CVS card's savings, though consider the big picture in how the final price compares.

Is it just my store or does the CVS ExtraCare card have less lucrative rewards? I was always given coupons for $5 off a $20 purchase and those stopped two years ago. Then I began receiving $3 off a $15 purchase of CVS brand items and those stopped a year ago. The last time I was given a decent coupon like this was I can't remember when.

I think the CVS ExtraCare program has gotten less generous in recent years. At the time of the gold rush I described above, I couldn't believe how much CVS was spending to acquire customers. However, it worked.

Walgreen's is less than a five-minute walk from my home, but I usually drive to the CVS for prescriptions. I like their smaller stores, the carpeted areas, the lighting and color scheme better. It's more pleasant than Walgreen's, imo. Sometimes they have good sales (buy one, get the other half off), but I have noticed their prices seem high (really high sometimes) here and there. When the clerk hands me my CVS receipt I quickly look for a coupon at the end. But the experience is the same as for most of those who play the state lottery.

You should see the newly renovated concept CVS store in my neighborhood. It was recently redone from top to bottom and aside from moving everything around, the biggest change is that the store is 100% self service check out. This is unusual, considering that this particular CVS is for the most part a liquor store for the clubbers, being labeled as a drugstore. You can't walk int there at night without seeing a few dozen college aged kids lined up to get their drink on. Which by the way, I wonder if the 5% cash back credit cards for those purchases are legal in the states that have strict regulations on pricing.

I wish I was still in college getting my drink on. Good times.

I don't do the self-serve checkout thing. If they want me to work at the store they're going to have to pay me.
