Thread: How long does credit card approval take?

I applied for a credit card now and it said an instant approval decision could not be made and a decision will be done shortly. How long does credit card approval take on average in this situation? It was for a Chase Slate and I have bad credit, I know its a stretch but that is their lowest unsecured card. I really hope I get approved and won't have to resort to dept store cards.

If you have bad credit to the point you are giving yourself dings on a long stretch gamble... then I am curious why do you think a dept. store is going to give you one either?

Anyhow, different cards/branches/creditors take different times so I'm not sure what to say there. But if you didn't give them the SSI/SSN you can expect to wait quite a while... sometimes indefinitely.

Thank you for the reply Elliot! My credit is not great but it is still fair from my understanding of the definition of a fair credit score. If I don't get approved for this then you are right and I will hold off on giving myself anymore dings for a while.

I did provide my social. I called and was told up to 10 days but is it necessarily on the tenth day or could up to mean a couple days?

If your credit isn't bad after all, then don't worry so much about a few dings. Creditors understand that dings are not all bad, and will give you some freebies.

10 days could mean, an average of 6 days, but with a late-window for the few that take longer to file, or it could mean something like 14 days, since they may not include weekends & holidays. Are you really in that much of a rush to see if you get the card mate? :P
