Macy's pushing joint accounts

Postby VaNavigator » Tue Apr 08, 2014 10:00 am

Does anyone know why Macy’s is pushing customers to open joint credit card accounts. This past New Year’s my wife and my mother were talked into opening a joint account just so they could get the discount for opening a new account. Both already had Macy’s accounts. We were shopping in Macy’s this past weekend and it was taking awhile to check out because the clerks were opening up joint accounts for the people in front of us. The clerk also asked us if we wanted to open a joint account. We declined because we each have our own separate accounts that predate our marriage. Why the obsession with joint accounts? What's in it for Macy's or what's in it for the clerks?

My guess is they are trying to make it easier for you or your significant other to spend at Macy's.

Oh, your wife has a card? Are you on it? I can look you up!

My guess is the clerk gets credit for each person that they sign up. Targeting couples is twice as good...
