Is there ever a good reason to get a store credit card?

Where you can talk about store credit cards, like gas station cards, department store cards, etc.

The HD card is useful if you need financing. You can likely find cards that will give you well over a year interest free without being attached to Home Depot. Discover has 5% cash back on home improvement in the spring though, and also has some warranty extension and price protection features that could prove useful. I go to Home Depot regularly and do not like their credit card.

Thank you.

I do have the Discover IT card, although I just missed the home improvement calendar. Oh well, next season I will use this. In the meantime, may very well continue looking at options.

Depends. I got the sears mastercard from chase for the no forex fee feature plus the extra discount if you have a sears mc.

I only have store cards at Macy's, Ann Taylor, Victoria Secret, Old Navy, They all have high interest rates but great rewards. Of course you should pay off every month but I do carry balance, but working on that.

At this point, all of my store cards are with GE. I have Amazon, Chevron, Paypal, and WalMart cards with them and they've all grown quite nicely in such a relatively short period of time, especially when I got my first Amex and the limit was still 2 grand. My Amazon card's limit was increased automatically to almost exactly how much my Delta Gold card had as its CL for example which was pretty cool and I think if I continue to use it every so often and PIF, I have a good feeling GE will be generous and again try to increase the limits of my cards to reflect the changes in my CL with Amex.

. Recently closed one I had with Old Navy because I didn't have as much use for it and the limit was pretty low compared to all the ones I listed above. Depending on how things go in the next few months, I'm considering maybe sockdrawering the Chevron card as I'm probably going to start using my new charge card for gas much more often.
