Is the American Eagle Outfitters credit card a ripoff?

Where you can talk about store credit cards, like gas station cards, department store cards, etc.

My very first card was with American Eagle. I was given a $150 limit. I paid off the balance and in a few months they bumped me to $300, then $720, and just yesterday they upgraded it to a Visa with a $2k limit. This is a decent card to start with if you're smart. Though, as others have said, a secured card with a major bank might be a better idea. If nothing else, you could use it elsewhere. You get the AE Rewards even if you don't have a credit card with them, though I don't think you get quite as many of them.

I will say that getting a card at a young age is a fantastic thing to do if you're smart about it. At 22, I have better credit than my parents and almost any of my friends. That's a weird but good feeling.
