Best Buy Store Card vs. Best Buy Visa

Postby ingramjuan » Mon Apr 18, 2016 10:36 pm

I open up a best buy store card 2 years ago with a very decent limit and have not had any issue with the card since i pay the balance in full each month and or before the intro period is over. Well i received a letter a few days ago from best buy that they are upgrading my card to a best buy visa? Although their letter states that nothing should change on my credit report, i was wondering is this true?

I can't say for sure, but if you don't really care to have the Visa I would avoid it just to be safe. The same thing happened to me with Walmart.

My store account was "upgraded" to a MasterCard. They sent the card in the mail so I activated it without thinking too much about it. They closed out the Walmart store account and hit me with a new account. No HP or anything, but it still pissed me off a little because I wasn't expecting it and would have had no interest in activating the card they sent me had I known that would happen. Fortunately my credit is in good shape and it didn't really hurt me too much, but it still would have been nice if they told me. A Walmart MasterCard is pretty useless to me.
