Amazon.com Store card (Prime card) sign up bonus.

Where you can talk about store credit cards, like gas station cards, department store cards, etc.

Amazon.com Store card (Prime card) sign up bonus.

Postby JackLane » Thu Dec 17, 2015 4:03 pm

This year I did a ton of shopping on Amazon, and 5% cashback across the board would have saved some good green bills. A friend of mine has added me in his Prime membership for last 3 years, so I guess I qualify for Prime card.

Currently, amazon is offering only $10 gift card. When they launched the card, it was $40 gift card. Has there been any better promotion in the past, that one can wait in hopes or just bite the bullet with $10 card and apply?

Thanks in advance.

To be honest I think $10 is pretty pathetic and not even worth considering as a bonus. If you want the card anyway, go for it, but $10 is basically the same as nothing.

I have heard of it being in the $20-40 range before but that's still really not much.

I know, but knowing that amazon does business on super thin margin, and they offered only $40 when they launched it, anything but zero looks good. Since I shop exclusively on amazon, in the long run, that 5% should pay off big.

The 5% is a totally legitimate reason to sign up. It's just that the $10 bonus is really nothing to take into consideration because it's just so tiny. If you want the card, it should be for the 5% or other reasoning, but not $10 lol

I recently signed up and got a $20 gift card credit on the first purchase. Amazon is the one store card I can justify if you're a prime member with the 5% plus 0% financing.

If you're going to be spending $10k+ on Amazon a year the way some people spend $10k+ at Costco, then it doesn't take a big signup bonus to make the card worthwhile.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

But again, we can get into "need to spend" vs "I spend it anyway so may as well get the card". We all spend on things we don't need sometimes, to an extent, and that's fine. Nobody should live life with no enjoyment. However, if we tell ourselves "well I spend 10k a year on amazon anyway", are we going to continue to "make sure" we spend it just because we now have a special card for it? Maybe 10k per year on amazon isn't really necessary spending, but the special card/rewards can make one feel it is.

Just something to keep in mind when saying "I spend ___ anyway". Not directed at you, just a general point.

Final update,
I signed up for Amazon Prime Store card and got $20 gift card in my account immediately.

AFTER I signed up and was placing my first order, it offered me the deal of Amazon Prime Store card at checkout and offered $80 gift card

So for future applicants, keep an eye on your cart page. May be give dummy links (i.e. click on the offer and then close the window) if the system checks that. May offer higher bonus in future offers. I don't know if it really works like that but worth a shot.
