Newegg Closing All Preferred Accounts

Postby amexmember12 » Mon Sep 14, 2015 2:07 pm

So just got an email from Newegg basically stating that they are closing my Preferred Account, due to the fact that they are switching banks.

As a valued customer, we wanted to let you know that on October 1, 2015, we will introduce the Newegg Store Credit Card, which has new features and benefits that we anticipate that you will enjoy.

Applications for the Newegg Store Credit Card will be available on October 1, 2015, after which, you'll receive a personal invitation from us to apply.

Your Newegg Preferred Account will be accepted on Newegg.com between now and September 30, 2015, after which you will not be able to use your account for new transactions.1

If you have questions pertaining to your Newegg Preferred Account, please call for (888) 609-0794 Newegg Preferred Account customer service. For general questions regarding Newegg and your orders with us, please call (800) 390-1119 for Newegg customer service.

Thanks for shopping with Newegg.

Sincerely,

Team Newegg

Hi XXXXXX, We appreciate that you've reached out to us! Because the Newegg Store Credit Card will be held with a new financial institute, our customer's will need to reapply for a new line of credit with our new creditor. This means that the customer's credit will have to be reviewed to determine their eligibility. If you have any further questions and/or concerns, please feel free to email us at wecare.facebook@newegg.com. Thank you. ~Julia

It was nice to have, but unless they add some great benefits to the new card I'll just use one of my other CC's to make the purchase.

Update: Here is the new Newegg Credit Card : http://www.newegg.com/newegg-store-credit-card

It is the same as before, I was expecting that would have given applicants free newegg premier or something. I definitely won't be reapplying for it.

I can't think of a great alternative. Amex checkout was once per card, and the available portals don't offer much.
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Chase UR portal plus the Visa Checkout thing can net a nice discount/rewards. But I haven't bought anything on the Egg since moving near a Microcenter.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

Nice -

I live 15 -30 mins from both Microcenters and both Fry's, depending on which one and the time i decide to go. So instore price match is always a great thing.

UR portal just adds 1 UR per dollar, or (1.1 for Freedom with checking for the next few months). What does Visa Checkout add?

I find Amazon typically has cheaper prices than NewEgg. If you use AMEX checkout you can get a discount on NewEgg unless that was a one time offer. I've got a two Fry's here but they're both on the other side of town sadly. They look so cool inside! But I find them a bit expensive overall.
Kohls: $300, Discover IT: $1.8k, Capital One Quicksilver: $2k, Amazon Store Card: $2.2k, BoA Cash Rewards: 1k, Chase Freedom: 3.2k, AMEX HHonors 3k

10% off, up to $20 cash back. So not great but if you time it right you can nab a pretty good deal.

I use the HoverHound addon to browse Newegg and compare prices. I like Newegg's search better than Amazon.
