Got Approved For Target REDcard

Postby Dylan1982 » Tue Dec 23, 2014 10:46 am

Applied for the Target REDcard back at the end of November. Only reason I did it was b/c I was buying a lot of Christmas stuff that day. Plus I like to shop at Target for little grocery stuff that is much, much cheaper than the chain gorcery stores by me.

Also when you use the Cartwheel app you get anywhere from 5% to 25% specific items, then pair that up with the REDcard and you get another 5% off. You're saving money all around, WIN, WIN in my book.

Another reason I signed up for the REDcard, Target will donate 1% of your total purchase to a school of your choice that you sign up for. So naturally, I signed my sons school up to receive the 1%.

Anyways, I was instant approved for a CL of $3k  I don't ever see my self going over $3K so that is a great limit.

Congratulations! I use my Target card all of the time but they don't seem to be giving out credit line increases too often which is why there are so many complaints about it (although I have gotten a few). They also don't offer the VISA anymore which is disappointing because then I wouldn't have to carry a different VISA with me (although 99% of the time I'm only using My AMEX/Discover/REDCard - which is why I don't carry VISAs with me... too many bulky cards!)

I just decided to get their debit card instead and still get the 5% discount on their purchases. That was the biggest mistake I made when I had that Target RED card for a few months. I was stuck with a really low 300 dollar limit and even trying to cancel the card was a major pain IMO.

Great CL there though. Most of the time, even people with good credit have gotten super tiny toy limits on that thing.

Congratulations! 5% upfront is a great deal. The nearest Target is about 45 minutes away from me, so it just isn't worth it in my case. If only the Walmart card gave you 5% upfront!

I say that but when I lived in a bigger town I didn't go to Target all that much. Sam's Club, now THAT'S what I miss (there wasn't a Costco there either).

I consider getting the debit card also for the discounts, is that a hard pull and or soft pull of your credit file?

I don't think they even pull for the debit card... not if they allow 16 year olds to apply.

It's not a pull at all for the debit. All they need is a blank check to set up the ACH transfer and then you're golden.

I used to have the debit but it was a pain in the ass to make sure I didn't overdraft at all. But since I have the credit card, I'm shredding the debit card when I get back to my dorm.
