Success!!

Postby mathman314 » Wed Nov 26, 2014 9:24 pm

Well I applied for the Target credit card and it got instantly approved. Starting CL is $1000. It's my first instant approval and to be quite honest, I was surprised with it along with the limit albeit sort of low.

Just wanted to share my success!!
Cards:
1FBUSA: 5.75k
Discover IT (for students): 4.6k
Chase Freedom (signature): 5k
Target REDcard: 1.5k
AmEx BlueCash Everyday: 5.5k

FICOs:
TU - 785 (December 2015)

Congratulations!

Don't spend it all in one place!

(Just kidding!) :)

I can relate to the feeling of surprise at being instantly approved. It is some how validating in a sick sort of way. Kind of like the bouncer at the bar who lets you in right away, while others are still waiting in line.
Current Cards:
AmEx Platinum Charge: NPSL, $450 AF
AmEx Reserve Credit: $30K limit, $450 AF
Chase Slate Visa Credit: $32K limit, No AF
Future Strategy:
Near Term: Need a good MasterCard for places that won't accept AmEx or Visa
Long Term: Will downsize out of one or both current AmEx cards to reduce AFs

Not bad. You could have certainly done a lot worse with the Target RED card. I had that card at one point for a measly 300 dollar limit until I closed it. It was quite thrilling when I got my first ever instant approval for a major bank card for the Discover It for students back in April.

Personally, I think you could've chosen a much better card. But, if you shop there a lot and it's worth it to you, enjoy it.

I agree. The worst part about that card is that there's no CLI button on their website. The 5% discount on their stuff though is nice at least.

Have you called and asked for a CLI on the IT?

I like how it's 5% at register, not a "get a gift card when you reach a bazillion dollars back" scheme.

You gotta admit it's a whole lot better than having to worry about Over drafting when using the Debit card.

I've tried requesting one multiple times on the website. No success yet. I would even be satisfied with just a CLI to 1000 or 1500 because either one of those would make the card much more usable for me. I'm just gonna wait until I get an auto CLI or something. It remains my lowest limit card right now. Even BoA and Wells Fargo (when I still had their student card) gave me better starting limits and CapOne grew quicker too. I really did not expect that I'd have the best results with Amex and Chase.

Call. Don't rely on the website. I have $15,000 CL cards and Discover started me off with 2K. Website wouldn't let me, so I called. They approved 2.5k. I asked if they could reconsider 3k. Guy put me on hold and came back and said "yes, I will do 3k for you". Call. It may be worth it, and don't take the first "no" for an answer.
