It wasn't a takeover. Just a corporate spinoff from GE and a name change. I'd expect the management is mostly the same as before.

So don't be too eager to celebrate like Synchrony is some new corporate conqueror and enlightened ruler, trusting the just and worthy customers with expanded credit.

But a CLI is always good. I'm thinking of a little clothing shopping soon, myself, so I will take a closer look into how good the GECRB/Synchrony customer service has been recently. I can use MR points for a gift card for most of it, though, and that would make savings from a store card pretty minimal.

Last I heard, Synchrony/GECRB came with a few headaches, though, so I will probably stay in my week-old garden.

GE for me has always been great with auto CLIs. I remember requesting them myself and getting denied for them but paying in full and giving it time really works wonders.

Synchrony/GECRB really should provide free shipping to encourage use of their store cards. I think shipping policies vary quite widely from store to store, but Amex and Shoprunner are a serious threat. When 'store x' has a card that doesn't even provide the best benefits, long term, of any card at 'store x', it does make a store card seem not worth the extra hassle.
