Sears claims i didn't pay CC bill

Postby mykdebauch » Mon Jul 07, 2014 6:23 pm

Hello, this is my first post and it is an emergency. i live in hawaii.

In mid-May i went to a Sears to pay off my credit card bill. i paid in cash, $3000, the entire bill minus about $20. anyway about 3 weeks later i get my CC statement and the payment isn’t there, showing my bill to still be around $3,020. i begin looking for the receipt but i cannot find it anywhere. i called the sears i went to and they said they will check the camera footage and call back. they don’t call me back and i call them again in a week. again i have to tell them what happened and they say they will check the security tapes again, only this time they called my back within the hour and told me they cannot find me in the footage. i find this strange since they only saw me briefly, how can they be sure i’m not in the footage?

anyway, i need some advice as to what to do. my nephew was there with me when i paid the bill so i have a witness. has this happened to anyone else?

I'd be prepared to eat this one. A cash payment and you can't find the receipt...yikes. You better do another round of searching for that receipt.

Chances are most of the associates you will speak to are incompetent. I would compile all the info like time, date, register you paid at, name of the associate, what you were wearing, what door you entered through--everything you can think of, and go to the store manager. Ask him to review the transactions on that terminal (register) for the day. It may take him a while but if you don't find the receipt it's your only hope.

There is a lesson here.

Good luck.

Wow was that a mistake. Taking 3k in cash like that what if you get mugged? And no receipt? No receipt = no payment in the eyes of the law. As mentioned you better find it. That's about all any of us can say.

I pay my bill with cash at Target and they usually staple the receipt to the statement. You need to call the store and ask them to lookup their payments and see if they are balanced.
American Express: Blue Cash Everyday (10k), Everyday, Plenti ; Discover It (7.3k) ; Target (1.6k)

Citi: Diamond (2k) ; Bank of America: Cash Rewards (2.6k) ; Capital One: Quicksilver (3k) , Sony ; Chase: Freedom (3.7k), Slate (3k), (Amazon) ; Barclay Ring ; Synchrony: Walmart MC, Amazon, Ebates
