Pros for using a business card for business?

Postby Taalar » Sat Jan 07, 2017 5:31 pm

why not just designate a personal for it? Been doing it for 20 years and was just curious if I was missing something? Seems like rewards are better on the personal.

In General. If personal cards have better rewards, why would anyone, at least on a small scale ever use a business card? I understand corporations who have many users on one card, but for the average Joe who does not let employees use his card is there any reason to use a business card over a personal that is exclusive to business? I know people who do and was curious.

A lot of business cards have better rewards categories for business geared purchases. Not sure if these apply to your business or not, but my experience has been the opposite of yours.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige
Discover - It

I would love some examples to consider but I think you mean like office supply stores etc?. I think most of my business expenses is restaurants and gas.

I've often wondered this too. As long as you're not putting personal expenses on the designated business card, there's probably no reason NOT to use a personal card for business.

I ran this by the business owner in my life. He and he did say that, in his experience, he has gotten much higher limits on the cards that are advertised as business cards.
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

That's an interesting thought KCM. I have stopped trying to get higher limits on my cards and they did eventually stop going up on their own. Of course I don't like giving financials to people so that is probably part of it. Anyone here have any experience with higher limits on business cards?

Owning a business doesn’t mean you need to have a business credit card if it’s something you’re not comfortable managing. It might be more challenging to separate business expenses from personal expenses, but if you open a personal card solely dedicated to business transactions, you won’t have as much difficulty come tax time.
