    Default Citi is not giving 5 points per dollar as promised

    I applied for a Citi Forward credit card, intrigued by the promise of 5 reward points per dollar spent on restaurants and books. I applied from the following website: The Citi Forward® Card

    I closely read the terms and conditions, which state that "Unless you are participating in a limited-time offer, you will earn five ThankYou Points for every dollar you spend on purchases at (1) book stores, (2) record stores, (3) restaurants, including fast food restaurants, (4) motion picture theaters, and (5) video entertainment rental stores." So, as would any reasonable person reading that, I assumed I would receive 5 points for purchases in these categories.

    Not so. On my first statement, I noticed that I only received one point for every dollar spent, even on the categories clearly specified to receive 5 points in the Terms and Conditions.

    I immediately sent a message to customer service through my online account. They stated that I was "not eligible" for the 5 points offer, and would have to send proof that I was. However, I have no physical proof, as I applied online, not in response to something they sent me.

    I called customer service a few days later, where a very helpful representative assured me that this was a mistake, that my account should receive 5 points for the specified categories, and that it would be corrected immediately.

    It wasn't, so I called back a few days later. I was put through to a manager who was exceptionally unhelpful. She refused to change the way points are awarded on my account, saying that their application records say that I applied for a card with only 1 point per dollar spent. Their records are wrong (or they are lying), yet Citi refuses to admit that this is a possibility.

    This is extremely frustrating. I have a credit score above 750, a stellar credit history, and a high credit limit. I applied on a website stating certain terms and conditions (5 points), yet they refuse to acknowledge this, and instead apply whatever terms and conditions they feel like (1 point). The website is still up and functioning, so anyone who can use a web browser can see that the offer I responded to clearly lists 5 points in these categories.

    It is also very frustrating when I contact customer service, and they admit a mistake and promise to fix it, yet when I call back a few days later they refuse to admit that they have made any mistake in the first place - and make no effort to correct anything.

    When I apply for a credit card under certain Terms and Conditions, I expect that Citi will honor them, but this is clearly not the case. Certainly not much of an incentive to be a customer of Citibank.... Any help on how to remedy this would be appreciated!

    I don't think you have much recourse without a screenshot or a letter. I'm sorry. This is tough to deal with.

    I actually do have a screenshot of the Terms and Conditions of the website where I applied. Basically, they told me that I could have photoshopped the screenshot; therefore, unless I could prove that I took it exactly when I applied, they weren't going to do anything. I'm helpless! This is totally dishonest of them and I never intend to use a Citi card again.

    I'm in the same situation. I was approved back in November for the Student Forward (with the 5x offer mentioned here and 0.25% APR reduction every 3 months). When I called in to ask why I'm not getting the 5x points, they just claimed that the offer does not apply to my account. I then asked to make sure the APR reduction was still in place. She told me that doesn't apply either.

    Haven't used the card a single time since.

    PS - I did receive a very generous 100 Thank You points from the CSR. What is that, $1.00? Really?

    I've read in other places that the card is no longer being offered by Citi. That may have something to do with it.

    If my card no longer gives me 5%, it'll be collecting lots of dust and not touch my wallet.

    I feel your pain. I was thinking about applying for the Forward in Dec, but unfortunately it got cut by citi and the only one avail is the student card. From my understanding, it all boils down to when you applied for the card. There was a revision to the rewards terms and conditions (apparently somewhere in the card agreement it says citi has the rights to change their terms & conditions without warning or explanation or something to that degree). If you visit the Forward student card thru citibank's website, in the rewards link it says the 5pts for categories is a "promotional offer". I know you applied for the regular one and the link to that website still does state you get 5pts, but you should have gotten a disclosure about how your rewards work in the envelope along with your credit card. That is what you should base it on. If that says 5pts, then you have a solid argument against citi. Also, I have not heard what would happen to those who already had the Forward card before the revision. They could be permanently grandfathered into the old rewards...

    Just took a more thorough look at the link you had in your post. When did you apply for the card? The website is old (Nov 2012) that's probably why you're only getting 1pt.

    As of now, I'm still getting the 5x points. If they stop, I will cancel it since I haven't had it that long.

    I got the card in Oct 2012 and am still getting 5x points.

    Didn't someone post a rumor that if you select "no" when it asks if you were student that you wouldn't get the 5X points? I thought I remembered reading that somewhere on this board...
