CSP vs Discover Miles

Postby FutureBillionaire » Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:33 am

Both of these cards give me double miles on travel and dining. The Miles card also counts entertainment, so I get double miles at bowling alleys, amusement parks, and movie theaters. Are there any hidden categories with the CSP that I need to be aware of?

I'm not familiar with the Miles card, but CSP gives a 20% bonus is points are redeemed toward travel. Chase UR points are very versatile and easily transferable.

I love Southwest. That's the only airline I fly, if I can help it.

I don't think I answered the question clearly. I was just wondering if there was a hidden category like the Miles has. The Miles card includes entertainment in addition to travel and dining. I'm going to be using the CSP all the time so I can get the sign up bonus.

Chase Sapphire preferred becomes more attractive when you use Chase Freedom with 5% categories, earn points and transfer those to Sapphire Preferred to get addition 25% bonus to earn a net 6.25% from Freedom.

There is always confusion whether the benefit is 20% or 25%. An airticket of $500 face value can be bought from Ultimate Rewards website for equivalent of $400 points. So a saving of $100 on $500 is 20%. My logic is different. If I am paying $400 to get a saving of $100, then for me, the saving is 25%. For me, the notional face value of the ticket does not matter. How much I spend and how much savings I get, matters for rate of return calculations

I've never heard this about the Miles—is this something you noticed on accident or does Discover confirm it somewhere? It's a nice little perk.

I discovered this on my own. (see what I did there?) I checked my statement after going to a bowling alley and it worked. I believe I have used it at laser tag places and other spots too. It's a nice perk indeed.
