Bad changes coming to US Bank Cash + Card

Postby Gamma » Wed Jan 16, 2013 11:56 pm

As said here

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Big-Changes-bad-Coming-to-US-Bank-Cash/td-p/1806571

Effective either Feb 15 or quarter 2:
A)Bill pay, home improvement, and airlines are being removed from the rewards. Being changed to book store, cell phone, and sporting store.
B) You can only get 1 25 cash back bonus with a redemption of 100 per calender year.
C) Quarterly cap of 2000 qualified spending.

Too bad I never got a chance to abuse the rewards for their cards, but oh :)

Is this confirmed (as in officially announced by US Bank) or speculation? I have a Cash+ and haven't heard anything. I would think they would notify all card members simultaneously? If its true, only the loss of bill pay bothers me terribly, and book stores could be interesting if it includes Amazon, straight up 5-6.25% Cash Back is better than 5 TY points on the forward or 3% on ARV for Amazon.

Changes seem to be confirmed

From the Frequent Miler Blog

Changes coming in July:

1. Only one $25 bonus gift card per year.
2.Loss of Bill Pay, Home Improvement, and Airline as 5% categories. Sporting Goods, Book Stores, Cell Phone are the replacements. Might be interesting if Amazon.com counts as a bookstore.
3. $2000 spend cap per quarter on 5% bonus categories. Additional spend is 1% back.

Overall bad bad news. Makes it similar to other category cards. It will not be my everyday card anymore.

If this is true my bills will most likely be moving back to Amex and Discover. This is all I currently use my Cash+ for.

It's confirmed. I spoke to someone over the phone this morning. The question now is, what do we do? I will have to add the cell phone category. What about rhapsody, Netflix, insurance, Hulu, etc.

^All but insurance of those services listed can be put on the citi forward. Losing insurance and utilities and being able to get them with all phone services with one option is a big hit, but I didn't spend enough for the cap on $25 bonuses to make a difference or the cap on quarterly spending.

I plan on charging as much of my insurance as I can afford before the change hits. But after that, I'll be using gift cards again to get 4% cash back on bills.

I guess I will move my other things back to the Citi Forward. Oh well. What a waste.

Yep. They should have just added a cap and left the categories alone. I guess it'll be my fast food/restaurant card now.
