    Default Dividend rewards unimpressive

2013 first quarter 5% cash back categories for Citi Dividend are unimpressive. Zappos.com
Fitness clubs & Drugstores are the three categories.

I pay about $40 for fitness club so 1% to 5% will save me a $1.60 per month times 3 month will save me less than $5 bucks this year. In addition, compared to favorable US bank $20 minimum amount, Citi has accumulate $50 to redeem the rewards.

Unimpressive and therefore the card will be filed away from my wallet for 2013

I've had the dividend card since 2004. It used to be a good card, but it hasn't been competitive for many years. Last year I converted it to a world elite with EMV, with the thought that I might use some of the extra benefits. It hasn't happened. Plus the EMV is chip+signature (not chip+pin, which is what you want) and it has a foreign exchange fee. The only reason I'm leaving it open is AAOA and the thought that perhaps Citi will come up with a better card in the future and I can PC.

The drugstore category could be good for gift cards.

Nishant I wouldn't give up. yes I agree with you there unimpressive, but remember this christmas just passed, a lot of people were given restaurant gift card some were given a visa or American express gift card. as the year goes on the dividend will have other categories.

you live in Chicago maybe the next quarter april may and June will have restaurants, so you could go to your favorite restaurants that have outside patio, whereas with our Discover card there having restaurants in the first quarter Jan, Feb and March. look at the bright side since a lot of people were given clothes, colonge, scarves, gloves, gift cards to any stores would you want Citi to have 5% cash back on department stores, fashion and restaurants?

*Update: I got bored with the Dividend, so I pulled it out of the sock drawer and called citi and asked if I could do a product change...sure enough, I converted it to a Thank you preferred!!! Now that I can get thank you points, I'll be using it more often! Just an idea instead of leaving it with the socks haha

I just read online somewhere that Citi's cap is $6000 per year, while Discover/Chase's cap is $1500 per quarter. If this is true, the Citi Dividend card can be well worth it with just one good category because you can use all 6K on it (assuming you can do that in one quarter). Can anyone say if this is true or not? If grocery comes up sometime for 2013, I will probably pull the trigger if I can spend all 6K on it.

Also, having fitness clubs for January is great if your gym allows you to prepay for a whole year.

From doing a little research, what I said above seems to be true. So, if there is one good category for 2013, I'll be applying.

Are the 2013 categories listed anywhere, yet?
