Default 639 credit score, 25 yr old, want a good rewards card?

Hello everyone. Looking for my first credit card and would like some advice. Here are some details to help
    • 25 years old
    • Credit score: 639
    • Percent of on time payments: 100%
    • Average Age of Open Credit Lines: 5 Yrs 6 Mos
    • No hard inquiries, no derogatory marks.
    • Only outstanding loans are student loans
Having said this, what would be the best card for me? I spend most of my money on food/restaurants and gas/electronics.

I was considering Amex Blue Cash & the Chase Freedom card. I am certainly open to suggestions.

    Thank You

Capital One, stay away from Amex, Chase for now or until your score is near 700

your local bank if you have TD Bak, Citizens or PNC you should be able to get their card. NOT CHASE this is not what I mean by a local bank. Bank of Boston as an example of what I mean. Orchard Visa would be a good start too.

Do you shop in Sears, JCP, Kohl's, Gap you could try 1 of those places.

Since you mentioned food/restaurants and gas. Depending upon what gas station you go to you can get 1 of their charge cards. I have an Exxon/Mobil you can only use this card at their stations, but you could try a Exxon Mobil Mastercard, this is a credit card this you can use all over.

You should check your reports for errors. Your score is very low to have no defogs or later. If it is in fact a 639, I would work on improving it if you're looking to go with any prime lender for a rewards card, like he said near 700 or above. The other reason you may want to work on your score is so that your cards credit limit won't be nominal. Capital One doesn't historically have a good reputation for its customer service or limits.

The chase freedom or discover more what seem to be fitting for your spending habits, they only thing is you only get rotating rewards not a solid percentage.

You should check out the Citi Forward card. It should be easy to obtain with your credit history. It offers 5x points on restaurants including fast food. I love my forward card
    Cards
Visa: Citi Forward (5x pts on restaurants), Capital One Journey (1.25% cash back), BofA AAA (5% on gas)
Discover: Discover More (5% rotating categories)
Mastercard: Best Buy (4% at best buy), Chase Freedom (5% rotating categories)
    American Express: Zync

Thank you for all of the valuable input. I was approved for the Chase Freedom card. Citizens, my local bank, declined me, my banker told me she thought it was odd and asked if she could write them a letter to reconsider, however, this was after I applied so maybe i'll have two cards oh jeesh.

I also noticed that it's the Chase $100 cash back for $500 in 3 mos. What is the difference between the two cards that offer $100 and $200? Is it possible to be put into that account instead?

Score seems low for your history. I would definitely look deeper into your CR.
