    Default Worldpoints and business use

So I was just approved for a Worldpoints program card, and then noticed this tidbit:

purchases made by or for a business or for a business purpose, fees, interest charges, unauthorized/fraudulent transactions and certain other charges do not earn points.
The card is unlimited Worldpoints, no annual fee, can be used anywhere, etc. Points can be converted to cash or other goodies.

How much of a problem is this going to be? When they say "unlimited", I fully intend to use the card beyond any pre-conceived notion of what a limit might be in theory. Who's to say what my purchases are for, it's my card. I would really lament having to switch back to earning miles

I don't think they'll be able to tell a "business" transaction. For instance, if you book a hotel ballroom and rooms for a business conference and end up charging $30k or something like that and they question it, you could just say that you were at the hotel partying with your friends, really partying. The bank doesn't get an itemized list of charges, just the total amount, as far as I know.

And if you spend $5000 every day at Costco?

Only thing to do is to try it and see. I'd think of a snappy comeback in advance in case you are questioned about it.

2percentplus is this card that your talking about a small business or corporate card that has the company name on the card? or is it a fancy business card like the sapphire but no company name?

if it's like an American express small business or chase Ink, or any card with your name and the company's name on it, they set the rules. I would think using your card for any business use you would get points, such as going to Ruth's Chris, any business restaurant which would include chains like houilhans, Ruby Tuesdays, taking customers to sporting events, checking into hotels.

business points wouldn't be like going to hooters, disney world, the food court in malls, going to the movies, so if your card is a personal level you are correct no one needs to know what you are using your card for, but if it's a company card the credit card company should be giving your points to the business unless you own the business.

Ok, I'm not really sure what you said, but to simplify:

It is a personal card, not a business card. My level of "personal" spending far exceeds normal boundaries, so much and in such a pattern that one might assume the card was being used for "business purposes".

This is a Worldpoints fine print "gotcha" clause, I don't know if it's enforced or there for some other legal reason. As soon as there is a problem, the card and the relationship would be cut..I'm not sure if the business is valuable to them or not, but I am certainly going to be rewarded somewhere for channeling such a high amount of purchases through one card.

then you are right. world points should be giving you your points. let's say you went to staples and spent 200 dollars, 100 for your home and 100 for your company. you are correct they can't tell whether you used the card for personal use or business use. all they know is what store and location.

let's say your Lord & Taylor has a cafe and you and some co-workers went there for lunch, maybe you are discussing business or maybe your just having a good time. the credit card puts down the amount of the transaction and location.

I agree with you the company can't tell whether you used if for personal items or business. you are deserving of all points.

Ok, well, if you think so.

I wasn't talking about a hundred here or three hundred there, or even another $250 tomorrow and a $500 shopping spree the next day...

anyway...I'll put it in simpler terms. If an average person can expect to make $50k a year, then spending 20+ times that on a credit card a year probably isn't just groceries and car washes.
