Default Nice, but they'll still have to do better...

Chase just sent me a letter that says they are now offering two points per dollar spent at restaurants with the Sapphire card, one point on everything else as usual. (Travel booked through Chase earns more.)

Still, it's not enough. The Chase Amazon card pays 2% on restaurants. Fidelity Amex (FIA) pays 2% on everything. Chase Freedom is even more competitive given its rotating categories, which include restaurants.
    CARDS (and why)
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (best cash back excepting 5% cards), Fidelity Visa (spare)
Chase: Freedom (only for 5% reward categories, purchases under $10), Sapphire (not in use), Amazon Rewards (for Amazon purchases only)
CapitalOne: No Hassle Rewards (no foreign transaction fee, my only MasterCard, not in use)
Amex: Blue Cash Everyday (not in use)
Discover: More (only for 5% reward categories)

My feeling is that once people realized the Freedom also gave the 1x points, along with 5x on categories, they opted for that. With the Preferred the 25% bump equals 1.25% on regular and 2.5% on restaurants and travel categories. For non-categories though, it's tough to beat the Fidelity AmEx!
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

I will never give Chase business, regardless of what promotions they have, so, Amex all the way!

You may decide you want a visa/mastercard.
